@@mfournier01 I have been to 26 plus concerts, once three nights in a row, drove 400 miles to get there, three days ending on new years eve concert. Met him four times, once on a rainy day on Sunset Blvd, with my hawkeyes, as he was getting out of his car, going to Sam Ash to buy a harmonica. I literally reversed the car on Sunset blvd in the rain to park backwards on the side street to not miss him Ran inside and literally said "Huey, what are you doing here?" he was so surprised my eyes caught him in that one fleeting moment, in middle of a rainy day. I had just finished lunch in the car from Rock'n'Rolla Ralphs and had I been five seconds sooner or later in the universe, I'd missed him. I have his music playing over and over again, but this one is just endless. It's the same reason that I can't get enough of Heart of Glass. For years, they both just resonate with my frequency. It turns out, and I knew this, that Mike Chapman produced both singles, and there is a Mike Chapman's fingerprints and dna in both of these songs. I am no musician, but if there was an analysis of these two songs, side by side, I am sure they have the same harmonic signature/dna. No other two songs sound and resonate the same to me, and H&S is just an endless resonant music, that is insatiable to my person. I think if there were a bunch of white musicians playing the black blues rock music, it'd be HLN, to my untrained ears.

Years late to this party but I have to add that this is just solid musicianship and good taste. Just playing it basically just how it's written. Probably one of if not THE strongest Huey Lewis tunes, just a great mid-tempo early 80s rocker well-executed.

0:08, I always thought it was cowbells that Gibson was tapping, and not the rim of a drum!
@mfournier013 жыл бұрын
Oh it’s original percussion alright. I’ve just made it easier to play by programming it to the rim of my electronic drum!
@defiverr46973 жыл бұрын
@@mfournier01 I see, I wonder why I kept hearing cowbells all of these years. tnx. Love to see you do a cover of Whole Lotta Love'n and the long Small World, both the first and second part, Old Antone's and Bobo Tempo, all from Small World album. I thing Gibson is such a renaissance drummer, who is so under the radar and yet he can keep up and be on par with any legend in the drumming world, dead or alive. I could be wrong, not being a drummer.

Well done! Have you dubbed out the drums/percussion from the original to hear your version? The top drum on your right in this cover from your set is a rat-tat right?...hearing it sounds so cool! When listening to this song (which by the way is my favourite HL song) I envisioned a cow bell per say in the mix to give that distinct sound but I don't see one on your set. I'm old school I guess LOL. The sound created by these E sets is mind blowing! Great skills Mike! Keep it up!

+Ray Someone Thanks Ray! I actually have a number of percussion instruments triggered on this song. Top left pad has triangle in the middle and timbale on the edge. Third rack tom has a salsa cowbell on the rim, and pad to my left has a hand clap in the middle and a deeper cowbell on the edge. Challenging to put it all together but fun to play at the same time!
