I seen them in concert in 1986 in Lubbock. When we got out of the concert. It was pouring down rain, my first wife kelly and I got soaked before we found our car. Thats one of the good memories . Guess I'll hold on to that one and let the bad ones go.

The one thing I think is important about this song when it was released in 1984. Is that long before people were thanking people for their service. This song addresses the reality of the the post Vietnam era. Nobody thanked you for your service. If you were a Veteran you were not welcomed or invited to the party! It was 1983; 1984. You were questioned "Why did you join the military?" You seem so much smarter than that, my friend. Yet I believe in my country. I love the freedoms America gives us as individuals!! So Huey Lewis was thirty years ahead of his time. Huey was ahead of his time ; by like 30 years. My God I want a new drug ! Right about now. CuZ the Medical Marijuana is just about to wear off!!!

Dad is an Army vet. I am an Army vet. My big brother is a Marine vet. The Army wouldn't let him sign up. He's color blind. Go figure. All I had to do was have a heart beat and do 13 pushups and I was in. Even though the lenses of my glasses are as thick as Coke bottle bottoms! The stuff is crazy. All 3 of us are combat vets.

Thank you for this song Huey. I graduated highscool in 1983. My father flew a medvac chopper in Vietnam 3 tours. I grew up an Army brat, but when he returned home. He wasn't the same. He committed suicide in 1974, and I haven't been the same since. This song means so much to me. Thank you.

Huey has such a natural voice that it doesn't fade over time, he and the news made such great music. When they come out with new music I think the kids of today would still appreciate it and say wow! is this a new band?
@arkrazor3544 жыл бұрын
The band is still tight! Huey's voice is still on! They gave us a lot of great music, but this song stands out above all of them. More serious tone, musically varied, with searing lyrics, and a forerunner of "thank you for your service" mantra which is thankfully prevalent today.

I saw Huey Lewis and the News in concert nine times! They played this song at maybe three or four of their concerts that have attended. I remember when they did play THIS song during their 30th anniversary tour of the album SPORTS. I saw them in Ashland, Kentucky in late August of 2013. I had to drive all the way from Wadsworth, Ohio to see them live!

Great song. I heard this jam all the time on Top 40 radio back in the 80's along with Huey's other rock anthems. One of the few songs of the era that dealt with the Vietnam war and the veterans who came back from it.

What a great song and a great tour. The very first time I saw Huey was in Nashville back in the day. My father who installed carpet had been called to the Municipal Auditorium to seam a rug together that covered the stage for 38 Special. Dad got 4 free tickets so me and some friends went, and Huey Lewis was the opening act. I was blown away at how good he and his band were. Great times!
