After 14 years with a JVC projector on a 92" screen (which finally died), I went with a 98" TV. All things equal, the one thing NOT reviewed here is that my family operating an overhead projector in a dedicated movie room means that no matter what I'm doing - I have to stop what I'm doing, help them out, then go back and turn off manually later as the projector remote is ultimately lost and nobody else can reach the buttons. A TV....they can operate. Sometimes, it's the practical things that drive the decision...

I took on the UST 120 about 4 months ago and would never go back now. Each upgrade going foward is just the UST, not the screen. So increases in resolution, brightness etc all available at lower prices than the oled TV.

I just went with an 83 inch OLED recently. I had been researching UST/ALR screens, a 98 inch TV, and an 83 inch OLED for weeks. My living room is just way too bright for a UST as cool as it would be. Also, decent motorized ALR screens are expensive as well. The 98 inch TLC looks really cool, but I’ve been so used to OLED I feel like it’s going to bug me. So I just settled on a 83 inch C2 - Best Buy had one on clearance (New) for $3000. Maybe one day I’ll have a dedicated theater room to go UST just for the crazy size. For now, I think 83 inches with OLED tech will be more than satisfying. Thanks for all the videos B! Just recently subscribed. I had watched so many of your videos and realized I hadn’t even subscribed 🤣. But I’ve corrected that mistake. Good video guys, thanks again!

There's no way it's that bright. You might be making yourself blind. Even at 3,000 lumens a projector setup is quite visible. In the same brightness of a room, that OLED TV will suffer from so much UNBEARABLE glare from the "super bright lighting" you have that the experience would be just as bad as if you had a UST. This is a whole other level of UST and the motorized screen can be used for every UST you get after this one that it pays for itself after so many years of owning it. An ultra short throw projector in 2017 used to cost $20,000 including the screen and they have come down so far in price that I do believe once it enters the sub-$2,000 range, it's going to be more common in a home to see a UST instead of the standard OLED etc. It really feels like we are repeating the days of "...well, Plasma TVs are the best out there and nothing else beats it..." when it comes to OLED Flat Panel TV fans IMO. This UST would definitely do just fine with 4,000 lumens in your living room covered in super bright laser highbeam headlights from an Audi Q8 SUV if an OLED can handle the same lighting without ANY GLARE issues.

@@TriMuXx I’m not disagreeing with you my dude, but respectfully, I know my living room and you don’t. You have no idea what my living room looks like. Most of the light comes from overhead windows that aren’t directing hitting the television for glare. It’s just a lot of daylight that isn’t beaming directly at the TV. Could I get a UST? Sure! But then I’m out $3000-$4000 on a UST AND $2000 on an ALR motorized screen. Also, I’m not going to get the color saturation and contrast I want from a UST in my living room. Moreover, not all USTs have Dolby Vision, which is something I do care about. I never stated anything conveying that “OLEDs are the best and nothing out there beats it”. All I said was I was researching my options, and that an 83” OLED would be more than satisfying more my needs and my situation with my living room. A UST would be great, but I’d prefer waiting to implement it for a more ideal situation.
@TriMuXx

@@MentalSmarties an OLED won't be able to handle a bright room either. Most OLED TV owners put them in a semi dark room anyway so if the UST can't pull contrast/brightness in the super bright room you are in, neither will the OLED. HOWEVER, if the OLED CAN, then defintely the UST can as well. I think you're hiding under the "brightness of the room" argument when the room brightness causes major issues for OLED TVs as well. Modern projectors have overcome several hurdles of the projectors of old. Only witnessing it in person will someone be able to see and know for sure. It's just a shame not many stores actually have setups to show people.

Nice video! One question, why wouldn't you use the projector setup in a well lit room if "generally" it fades but the flat panel TV can only be seen facing the very front and even then it will have glare from the surrounding lighting whether it be window blinds opened or living room lights? I feel like this UST projector is a perfect example of how this no longer needs to be a "dedicated theater room display" device ONLY and has NOW entered the "IT CAN BE IN A WELL LIT ROOM TOO" or it can go EITHER in a pitch black dedicated theater room (like OLED TVs ALSO can benefit from as well) or in a well lit livingroom environment. I do not believe you NEED a dedicated theater room for USTs anymore. It can "just go in the livingroom" like flat panel TVs have for the longest time. Especially at this level. "Dedicated theater room" does not need to ONLY be used when reviewing projectors anymore. You can use the same statement in Flat Panel TV Reviews too. Regardless, love the comparison and follow up to the other Ultimea Thor video of yours as well! This video gets a "like" from me! Thanks @BTheInstaller !

I was convinced I would purchase a UST system for my basement renovation. I looked at floor and ceiling-mounted screens and everything in between. Before pulling the trigger on a $15K setup, something was bugging me - there are so many parts to this system - motors in the screen and integrated table, plus the parts in the UST itself... I'm going to be repairing this all the time! Now I'm going with a 100-inch 4K TV. Less than half the cost and only one thing I need to worry about or warranty.

I’ve not seen this UST projector but I’ve seen some of the best ones like the Samsung, HISENSE UST and a few others in the dark they where fine but as soon as light got into the room the projector was washed out compared to any tv in the show room, the off angles on a tv does not effect me, the 120” screen is very nice on the UST, but you have the 115” TCL tv to check out, now that would be a great comparison, maybe not the cost but the picture. another great review. Does the bolt pattern on the back of the TV allow for two TV mounts to be used as an option versus trying to find a single TV mount that will support that giant TV? What weight the wall can hold is another concern with using a single wall mount versus two as well (in the event a person can’t use the studs or possibly misses them during installation).

115 in would be great! TCL needs to step up their game with the video processors even more critical when you have a large TV like that. The reality is that the majority of programming is 1080P and below. If you are only doing 4K Blu-ray discs or subscribe to a 4K subscription service the processor is not as important 4 most viewers it is very important off-angle viewing and screen glare are also major concerns. Sony's x95 l and x90 L have proved that video processing is extremely important. What's the old saying garbage in garbage out.

Brandon tell us how to use a soundbar with this projector? You're not that's how. I have a Q990B, its 30 inches off the floor which is already well below ear level and the bare minium for height. In this setup maybe a foot off the floor, nope. Ok put the projector on a 2 foot high stand , nope still too low and that mean, screen, projector and soundbar all raised. The HTA 9 is the only system that would work. It's going to be a receiver based system only, which is fine of course.

If, like myself, you don’t have a dedicated home theatre room and your moderately sized lounge has to serve as your standard tv viewing facility, plus accommodate your movie nights? Then I think the TCL is a no brainer. I feel you would need an oversized lounge in order to experience a 98 inch tv, off access. I have a TCL 98 inch tv, not that one, a 2022 European model. In my 18 by 21 by 8.5 feet lounge, it serves it purpose, beautifully. I also find it’s audio reproduction to out class any other tv I’ve experienced. Oh, at no extra cost, the retailer offered me a 6 year guarantee. I think a 120 inch screen in a moderately sized lounge, may bee a little domineering for standard tv viewing. As a cinema screen in a dedicated, light controlled room, I might consider it. One more consideration is that with a tv, the audio reproduction emanates from the same point source as the screen. With a 98 inch screen, that allows for excellent channel separation. With a projector, the audio reproduction is emitted from a remote box.🗃️

This is an overrated reason to downplay UST projectors at 4,000 lumens. You're basically saying you want to sear your eyeballs while watching content because when headlights pop up in an HDR movie that are lined up to be facing the camera lens, everyone watching will go blind. I disagree with that being a "great watching experience". There's already Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ support on UST Projectors and they don't need "eye blinding" brightness for you to notice the amazing image quality, colors, and brightness.
