Huge 155 T Transformer Abnormal Load transported by Allelys Heavy Haulage through a busy Porthmadog

A huge electricity transformer arrived at Trawsfynydd Power Station. The 155-tonne piece of machinery arrived on a barge at Morfa Bychan, also known as Black Rock Sands, near Porthmadog then moved by road by Allelys Heavy Haulage. Where I filmed as it traveled through Portmadog and I then moved onto the A470 Oakley Drive.

Can you imagine once the payload gets to its destination the guy there says “Don’t like the colour” take it back….But seriously the multi steering axles on the trailer was impressive

The client would have witnessed a full Factory Acceptance Test before being transported. One item checked is the colour as per specification. I am in this game.

It is such a privilege to watch this. One of my favorite things is watching haulers, construction equipment, etc. I saw something similar to this covered in a plastic shell once going down the state highway where I live. It's a three lane road both directions, but the trailer and cargo made the road look so much smaller. Took up a total of two car lanes! I want to give the rig driver a handshake. And see inside the cab and under the hood, too. Great content! Excellent filming technique!

The stretch of road between Maentwrog and Gellilydan is a short piece of tarmac paradise for a biker! My dad was from Trawsfynydd, left to do his national service, learned to drive tank transporters and went into heavy haulage after the army, ironically many of his first jobs were bringing heavy plant and equipment to build the Trawsfynydd power station and subsequently taking the kit away again as each stage completed. My Dad was also from Trawsfynydd and also went into heavy haulage! But worked for a chap in Dyffryn NPS many moons 🌙 ago 👌

When Trawsfynydd power station was built in the last century, the generator transformers were delivered by rail, with additional steam locos assisting. This transformer looks considerably larger so no option but to deliver by road. Allelys doing a great job as usual. Porthmadog will probably have some potholes afterwards, though.

It was the same here, they transported a 195T transformer to the back of beyond on the same set up yet when it goes through high population areas it is on the huge cradles, it's like they are saying we use the cradles to impress the towns people but in rural areas we go for simple.

Yes, Allelys have done one of their own only 6 days ago. But it's only 4 minutes long, with a condensed highlights of the beaching, unloading and travel through Porthmadog
