Transport of Four 168te Transformers to the Shetland Isles

As part of a full turnkey solution, Allelys delivered and installed eight transformers across two separate projects for the Kergord Energy Substation and Viking Energy Substation on the Shetland Islands.
The first project involved transporting four transformers, all weighing 168te, using a 15 axle modular trailer from Lerwick Port to the Kergord Substation.

The contactors built access roads to the wind turbine sites up to and along the hill tops. I am told the power generated will be for export to Britain.

A magnificent planning achievement considering everything including crew had to be shipped to Shetland. The converter is not far north of where Ill be spending a weeks holiday in a fortnight's time.

The other road is single track so not suitable for normal traffic - there aren't many roads up there

@@abzzeusMany of Shetland’s roads are excellent. That includes access roads to renewable sites. Yes there are some single track with passing places. But few of them can’t be used by HGVs.
