Raiding nanas wardrobes is like a treasure trove! And she also loves to gives things to me, its like she sees them having a new lease of life and not doomed to never be worn again. Unfortunately alot of the super fitted clothing items she owns do not fit me great as I am 6ft and she is 5ft, however the ones that you can roll the sleeves up on, or are long enough to not be too revealing are definitely gems in my wardrobe. I actually wore one of her dresses to my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary before my grandad passed and it is one of my favourite pieces.

MissBeeTown my family sold most of my grandparents vintage clothes (sob) but I did manage to get one of my grandmother’s cocktail dress from 1956. She bought it because she needed to have evening wear for the boat trip she was taking from New York to Ireland with my grandfather and two aunts 😍

So many beautiful and historically rich items!! 😍 And they all fit you beautifully!! 😍 It must be really amazing to not only give these pieces of clothing a new life, but also have a familial connection to them and know some of the history behind them. 😍 That's such a dream!! ... What I would give to be able to have worn my family members hand-me-downs!! 😭 I'm the only member of my family that's really into vintage style, especially as everyday wear. My family also has a tendency to hoard things, so even though much of my grandmothers' clothing dating as far back to the 1930's was left behind after they passed, family members simply threw away or donated everything before I ever had a chance to even go through all the spectacular true vintage with the added benefit of a strong familial connection. They just assumed that because my grandmothers' and even my mother were/are all under 5'4", where as I reached 5'8" my 14 years old, that I wouldn't ever physically be able to fit into their clothing. So they thought it didn't matter. 🤷 But it would have been nice to even have the chance to take some pieces for sentimental reasons. Especially since I'm the only granddaughter, and I'm really the only member of the family that would truly appreciate the history behind the clothing. 😢 But it is what it is. I may never be able to have that connection with the dearly departed women of my family, but dressing in vintage style (even using modern pieces) makes me feel a little bit closer to them. And I'll take what little bit of them and our history that I can get. 💗 So thank you for sharing this little treasure trove!! I adore hearing the stories about other vintage ladies and their lovely little pieces of history. 💗

Thoughts from Melbourne: I study vintage sewing techniques Bee and I thought it as well to share my thoughts on the magnificent wedding gown and the dress with the under bodice of lace (as well as at the cuffs) with the over faux bolero. The two pieces soar above all the others with exceptional sewing techniques and expense. The thought came to me that these may well be a pair - the wedding dress and then the 'going away' on the honeymoon dress. I have only just discovered your youtube blog. Best wishes Elizabeth

Oh I love that!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment this. That seems quite possible as they are the same size. Unfortunately when my grandmother gifted these to me she was steeply declining with dementia and the stories were quite muddled and names eluded her. But their meaning, and how much she cherished the memories attached to them, was very evident so I'm very pleased I have them in my possession.

Oh what a shame! Maybe a younger generation in the family will grow up to love vintage and fit into them. I wish I had pics. That'd be lovely. My favorite vintage piece that I own is my great grandmother's bracelet. I'm not sure if it is by Georg Jenson or if it is a copy but I do know that it is real silver and from the 1930s. I wear it every day. The story behind why I have it is kind of interesting. A few years after she passed my family gathered at her storage unit and were encouraged to take anything of hers that we wanted. I was hunting for her paperweights that I had admired since I was a small child. While searching through boxes trying to find them I found this bracelet. It was black and honestly looked like a piece of trash. It was at the bottom of a box of books and clearly wasn't meant to be there. I took it home and spent a good while cleaning it up and restoring it with no idea what it was. I just wanted it because it had belonged to her. I was definitely rewarded for that decision. It's the most valuable piece of jewelry I own both sentimentally and monitarily.

Also I will say I've been with my boyfriend or feel weird saying partner but boyfriend seems so weird at this point for 12 years. We've wanted to get married forever but never have money for a wedding. Pretty much what I've realized is that society as brainwashed us to think this way and women are the worst. Especially friends who have been married multiple times love to rub in their weddings. It's really nasty. After all this we feel if we do get married its gonna involve us and our puppy Eli who is literally our child of almost 8 years. Getting married doesnt make your relationship special, what makes it special is living with someone day after day when you both see each other at your worst and still couldn't imagine yourself anywhere else. All those so called friends that love to gloat are really just caught up in the cycle of fitting in and are just jealous of what you have. And there are so many out there. At least in my experience.
