After waiting around trying to figure out the weather, I decided it's time to just go for it and seed this new front yard. In total this will be just over 56k sq. ft of ryegrass that went down in 2023 and I'm excited to work on this area and the future mini golf course I'm planning!

I used a bunch of these “erosion mats” when i did this 3 years ago and the fishing line mesh STILL hasn’t gone away. The landscape place said oh yeah just leave it down it will all dissolve….nope! It will get caught in the mower…won’t do that again. I would rather take a straw or hay sprayer and cover it and leave it.

Pythium is the worst!!! Wiped out my first seeding attempt early September. Had to spend $200 on mefenoxam to get it delivered asap 😭.. Managed to save a little bit though. Everything is looking much better now though. Great job though! That’s a massive Reno!

I seeded rye here in South Florida almost a month ago. Sandy soil, no irrigation system, only hand water twice a day. It came up fast. Problem was the humidity. And yes, i had fungus and it wiped most of the rye. But to my surprise, the water was enough for it to sprout. When I saw the previous video when you said you would wait till Spring, I was like noo. You can do it. *i did rake the seeds in deep. Like 1/2" deep. And it all came out.

Ryon I used to plant Alfalfa and we got the surface as hard as possible. When your tractor or in your case four wheeler,when it will make no tracks its just right. We used to have a plane fly in the seeds which were very small. After the plane seeded we ran a big multipacker over it and we always got a perfect stand. You can find small ones that would work. I think if you did that you wouldn't hafta put down the hay fiber the ground will be super hard and not wash. Just saying it might work for you. Plus hard surface with the seed pushed in will hold the moisture for a long time giving you seeds plenty of time to get a deep firm root bed.

I’m looking forward to what you do with this one. I’ve got just shy of an acre of grass and seeing how you manage a larger area is of interest to me. This previous summer, I had irrigation installed on the whole thing (using 22 zones) - it’s had the biggest impact on quality as compared to anything else I’ve done.

Yeah it's a gamble at this point. It looks like your lows are going to mainly be 40s so it could be pretty slow to mature and you might be more happy with spring.

Those steel infield grooming drag mats work great for seeding and leveling. We used to use that for top dressing and divot repair on the driving range tee area (high abuse/high divot concentration). Makes spreading leveling sand or top dressing media super easy.

Have you ever tried Semican mulch as a cover? I use it for small areas and if pressed in seems to retain moisture and prevent erosion. Might be a little more expense than the blanket? What a nice property you have and the first area is so green!
