You should send a copy of your Say No To Drugs video to the Illinois museum that is creating the Growing Up X exhibit. The video is culturally significant because it is linked to the Just Say No movement and is also a home video at the time. It's a great video.

Thanks for the memories! Cargo was the second album I ever got, and Business As Usual was the first! For me Men at Work was love at first listen…I was enthralled that I could read the liner notes and know some of the lyrics that I couldn’t understand (most important for the word “vegemite” in “Down Under”). 😊 That’s so cool you’re going to see the legendary Morris Day!!

So many amazing albums! I agree, Walmart has an excellent selection of vinyl records, and they include today's modern bands and singers. They also have a handful of record players to choose from.

Wow, great additions!!! That's cool that Morris Day's gonna be on next years cruise, and I hope you get his autograph. I have that album on CD. Oh and they had a Brass Armadillo Antique Mall in Cincy, but they closed up and moved to another place that's not too far. It's now called the Ohio Valley Antique Mall. Whenever you two come to Cincy you have to check it out!!!

Thanks Al! We've had so much fun shopping for records lately. We're excited to see Morris Day perform. He was supposed to be on this years' cruise but was among the artists who canceled. Glad he's rescheduled for next year. We've never been to Cincinnati, but we'd definitely like to visit some day!

I want to buy a record player. I love that vinyl has made a comeback! Barnes & Noble had a section a few years ago. Not sure if they still do. I couldn't believe it. I'm having flashbacks just seeing these albums again. (Tho' some of them I haven't heard of before.) So fun!

Cool, thanks! First off, we LOVE Howard Jones! We have his Dream Into Action and The 12" Album (will need to look for Humans Lib.) And of course, we're big fans of all the artists we saw perform recently including ABC, Johnny Hates Jazz, and Human League (our favorite 80s Cruise concert!) We had Yazoo's Upstairs at Eric's back in the day but on CD; have yet to find any Yazoo on vinyl... always on the hunt! And here's a funny story: I sometimes listened to 8-track tapes back in the 80s, and one of them was Thompson Twins Into the Gap. That's a great one for sure! Thanks for all of your suggestions... you have excellent taste in music!

I bought The Police: Synchronicity for my sister for a present....and for whatever reason she hated it. She listened to basically my entire collection of albums before that. That was actually the last album I ever bought for her. I think it is a generational thing as the following generations claim that certain things that are "cringey/cringeworthy" are only valuable to make fun of. Their views aren't consistent with their reality as they seem to be fans of the 80's and 90's culture privately OR when they basically repackage that culture (so it doesn't seem so obvious they are stealing it).

Lol! I think you totally nailed it! Despite their efforts, the current pop culture can’t compete with the originality (and pure awesomeness) of the 80s! And for the record, Synchronicity is a fabulous album! 👍

@@Our80sLife It hard to go wrong with The Police. The 80's was a very original decade, I always think of things like Thundercats and Samantha Fox and how there really is nothing like them. All the original things they have had recently is just bad (selfies, twerking, reaction videos, spitting out opinions at every opportunity, etc). The WORST is how some people are trying to promote seasonal dating, it just blows my mind how people come up with these ideas.

Ok but the 80s were about cassettes and portable stereos with auto reverse and search features. Think Pioneer and Sony. When I first started collecting music around 1980, I got about 6 record albums (9 to 5 soundtrack, REO Speedwagon, 45 of Queen of Hearts, Billy Squire, and a few others...) then realized cassettes were so much better and switched over.

We listened to records until cassettes became readily available. We still have quite a few of our originals from when we were kids. It's neat to think about how much technology (and various music formats) have changed during our lifetimes!

We recommend thrift stores, but you really have to go regularly and dig through the merchandise to find the best stuff. Happy thrifting!
