Come into the studio and have a look at my new art materials from Jackson's Art Supplies! I ordered these online and in this video I'll share everything I bought, quickly talk you through them, and then we'll swatch and test some of the supplies too (I found this so satisfying!). I'll make colour charts by swatching Caran d'Ache Neocolor 1 crayons and the beautiful Luminance coloured pencils, and test Liquitex Acrylic Paint Markers and Faber-Castell Pitt Soft Brush Artist Pens. I'll also give you my first impressions of the products and talk about why I decided to purchase these materials. I'll be using these supplies in my future work, so I'll be sharing further thoughts on them in upcoming videos. I'm very excited to see what I can create! Make yourself a cup of tea, grab a packet of biscuits, and settle in to enjoy 30 minutes of art supply heaven. Stay creative!

Hello Natasha! It's lovely to see you watching and doing an art haul and I enjoy your art making process. I face long term poverty so it's extremely difficult for me to be able to afford art materials when I need money for food. It has taken me a long time to be able to afford a watercolor brush that I want but I haven't got enough money yet. I hope you have a wonderful day Natasha and keep posting your amazing tutorials and art hauls and keep showing us your art!

Oh my, this is too visually pleasing for me to handle. The caran dache luminance colors you chose are just too beautiful together. Also the Neocolor crayons- added to my wishlist! They look like they lay down so well. I would’ve expected them to leave more white space on the tooth of the paper similar to normal crayons, but no!

Natasha, found NeoColor 1 sharpening info on Amazon US: “There are two ways to sharpen the Neocolors. The first and probably easiest way is with a crayon sharpener. The other way is with a little bit of sand paper. With the sand paper you would roll the Neocolor Crayon on its side at a slight angle to form the point.” Great video. Thanks. I’m already making my list! 🥰

Thanks so much, Linda! That's really helpful. Sandpaper sounds like a great idea. We have some, so I'll give it a go before I buy a crayon sharpener. Have fun making your list! ;)

Yay to colour palettes videos 🥳 And you might want to check out the Liquitex Muted Acrylic Paints, they’re right up your alley, especially the Muted Grey, this is a dark moody purplish grey, it’s stunning and I think you’ll love it. It pairs oh so well with the Light Portrait Pink. Much 💕💕💕

The pitt artists pens I use with everything. They're my go to for highlighting areas after Ive completed my base colors. I dont really do lineart per se but Ill highlight edges with the pens after Im done painting or coloring. The white in particular I abuse so much. Because theyre ink based also you can kind of use them to push around water soluble paints. So if you made an oopsy with gouache you can kinda use the pen to push color around. I use white, light grey and this tan colored one a lot.
@NatashaNewtonArt4 жыл бұрын
It's really interesting to hear how you use them. Thanks for sharing that with me, Stephanie! I look forward to experimenting more with the Pitt brush pens (I've just bought some extra colours so will be sharing those in a future video).
@Msboochie23 жыл бұрын
I am a big fan of Pitt Pens, but I haven't used them with gouache as you describe. It sounds interesting, I have a set if gouache untouched, not for long. I love how well they layer, much like the Polychromos pencils that are also color indexed to match. I get so many shades with one color by layering them up, the brush nib gives even more versatility. Blending with either takes some work, well for me at least. In being so determined to figure out how to easily blend them, I was missing the unique beauty of how they layer to create interesting colors and textures. They are great for ”plein air” and urban sketching, as they do not smell, and give a beautiful painterly effect.

i bought the nwocolor 1 40 set i think, thought they were the neocolor 2 , i was so mad and now i'm happy i made the mistake and i went to blick art supplies one fay after christmas and picked out all my own colors of neo 2 i had so much fun sitting on the floor picking them out i bought 30 so much fun now i also have the 10 tin, and the 60 color set i will be going back to sit on the floor and pick out what i don't have , seems like i should have them all lol , i need a water resistant medium for a commissioned painting so i'm glad about both sets

Natasha, I bough the Neocolor II and I didn't realize that and they do smudge in my sketchbooks - I didn't realize that the 1's don't smudge and I bought a large set - ugh! I do love them but they do still make a mess in my sketchbooks. Also, how did you like the smooth watercolor paper. Once I started using smooth I don't care for any other texture.
@NatashaNewtonArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandi! I haven't had chance to try the smooth watercolour paper yet, but it feels very nice and I look forward to seeing what I can do with it. I bought it for mixed media, thinking that I can use paint, the Neocolors, and the pencils together, to create some lovely layered effects. Sorry to hear about the smudging of the Neocolor II - what a pain! I researched them before I placed an order because I was worried about this type of thing. There does seem to be a little bit of transference in my sketchbook from them, but not much. Your tin with all the colours looks amazing though!
@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
@@NatashaNewtonArt Natasha, you have to try paint on the smooth paper - it's sooooooo wonderful - don't just use it for collage. It will be interesting to see if the Neocolor I and II smudge about the same. I really really love them though!

I have heard that some people have had good success with the Neocolor II when they use a clear acrylic gesso or an acrylic medium to activate the crayons instead of water. I haven’t tried either yet but hoping that it works well.

Some can be very close like the violet grey to Lightfast’s and Derwent drawing Mars violet and since I have the 3 plus sets, some Pablos, Procolours and Drawing pencils and Polychromos there is a way to save on some doubles so if you ever really wanted to see a color comparison let me know, I would be happy to help you save, some oranges are really close but a couple of Pablos like Hazel and one other one are quite different. My favorite color is turquoise. I really have learned which I use and in some ways have an advantage. I had the whole set of FC markers and they dried up. It was so upsetting.
