Huge boost to UK car industry as Jaguar Land Rover plans flagship ‘gigafactory’

Inflation has eased more than expected, falling to 7.9%.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
That's led to predictions that interest rates may not go up as much as feared.
The markets now expect them to peak no higher than 6% by end of the year - still an eye watering increase on a year or so ago.
The fall in inflation was driven by a sharp drop in the price of fuel. Food prices are still rising, but at a slower pace.

Tata has been in the UK since 1907! Tata has been operating their Europe operation mainly in the UK for decades! They have 60000 employees in the UK! They stayed because of the convenience offered by the UK! £500 million is nothing for a company worth more than $311 billion! The TATA group is the biggest private sector employer in the world! i.e. not controlled by any govenrnment! (so chinese companies don't count!) Also, at least 66% of Tata shares are held by various charities started by Tata! These are free educational institutes (e.g. schools, universities etc.), research facilites, free speciality hospitals (e.g.cancer) etc.

That way, they would support their own uk start-up, which is better for the British car industry in the long run. But no, they would just let home-own start-up fails and be bought by foreign investors, and then hire foreign company to do the job instead. Just why???

Price of the 2 appointment would be around BDT20 million (PKR52.2 million) and yet we don't have a car. We had one 5 years ago and had one when I was a kid. Cars are very expensive here. Price was always very high but last year it jumped as taka fell by 29%. Through out the world price increased because of war and COVID. We might have more dollars than you guys have but the purchasing power is lower here. Only 0.4% have cars, not even half percentage. In India it's 7% and in Pakistan 1.8% . I like driving but sadly for me I live in BD where the tax rate is highest for some categories of cars. A 5 year old car was around 400K and the tax was 1.2 million (300%) so the final price was 1.6 million BDT. Not PKR. Even electric cars had 100% tax. But last year they increased it. Gasoline cars over 4L engine have to pay 840%. A Lamborghini would cost 9.4 times the of the actual price (940%) that's why we don't have a Lamborghini in Bd. 1 McLaren came this year before that we didn't even have 1 McLaren. Still now no Aston Martin. There are 3/4 Ferraris and 2 classic Ferraris. The last time I a car drove was in 2019. I like driving so it bothers me a lot. People in Pakistan drive civics. Here those cost a lot. Wish I could move to a different country and drive. I learnt driving before my 21 birthday and I could ride motorcycle when I was only 15. This is because we didn't have cars and I didn't have access to driving. Have a good day. Hope Pakistan comes out of this bad situation and also the price of goods fall in Bangladesh.

The recession is a reality, and my advice is to capitalize on it along with inflation. Preparing and planning for these economic cycles is crucial, as recessions are an inevitable part of the economic cycle. Following a challenging post-graduation phase, I initially worked as an aerial acrobat on cruise ships. However, I have since achieved significant growth, managing my own business, holding a vice president position in a large organization, owning multiple rental properties, and making investments in stocks and companies. Notably, my net worth has increased by $500k over the last 28 months.

Same here, not until they get burned by their mistakes, people do indeed minimize the role of expert counselors. The covid epidemic and my early 2020 layoff came at a time when I needed to stay afloat, so I looked for license advisors. Mayra Femia-Hetrick whom is searchable online made my previously stagnated $325K reserve to have so far generated massive returns from subsequent investments thanks to someone with practical expertise and decades of experience that I was fortunate enough to come across.

It's called incentives, because in itself the project in UK was not a viable option. It's legal tax incentives to make companies easier, overcome the inherant drawbacks of the location. It is global practice, watch USA giving billions in incentives to bring manufacturing to USA soil. Otherwise companies will go where it's more viable. Probably "incentives" are new concept for Brits, cause of their historical memory of bullying or killing others to submission for making deals in their own favour.

Absolute nonsense! Tata has been in the UK since 1907! Tata has been operating their Europe operation mainly in the UK for decades! They stayed because of the convenience offered by the UK! £500 million is nothing for a company worth more than $311 billion! The TATA group is the biggest private sector employer in the world! i.e. not controlled by any govenrnment... so chinese companies don't count! Also, at least 66% of Tata shares are held by various charities started by Tata!

@@os3990 Why would the Japanese consider this shameful? or why does Rishi think it is fantastic? It's not clear to me which question you are asking. But I'll try and answer both: Because Sunak is basically admitting that the UK lacks the money or expertise to do this themselves. Instead, working for another foreign company is spun as somehow being "fantastic" for the UK. But, remember, that is all the UK gets out of deals like this: they are little more than employees. All the real profits will end up far, far away. Tata ain't no charity - and neither are Nissan, Hitachi or Itochu.
