It is a beautiful blessing when our Lord Jesus ministers to us, especially through a song we've sang for years without understanding. We are truly loved by God when He stirs our emotions. The scriptures tell us that it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. When we see and feel His goodness, it makes us realize how frail we are and how big His love is for us. I know what you mean about that song, i had heard it probably all my life, and 3 or 4 Christmases ago, it was like i heard it for the first time, and it was Bing Crosby. I love his Christmas songs, lol, but when i heard that phrase, God does not sleep, nor is He dead, i was like, wait a minute, and i replayed it as well. It absolutely brought it home to me. I had never thought much about that song, and now i look for it every year. It's nice to see you share your faith❤

There also is a movie based on the poet and his story that lead to that poem as well. It was a very touching movie but it definitely will have you tears. Its also beautifully produced. Its call I heard the bells on Christmas day.

The Bible states there will be no peace until Jesus come back. Very interesting about the story behind the song. I think what it was like for my great- great-grandparents who indeed lost a child during the Civil War. He actually died in your state MO I know MO had a lot of battles there. His brother, my great grandfather, was also in the war, but, survived, and has a lot of decedents Thank you for the story & song. Living at that time must have been like the end of the world for Americans, the country torn in half w/bloodshed & wars. I'm sure the song comforted them.

I love the song theme! I actually have the canvas with “ O Holy Night”. In our Church we still sing from hymnals, and usually in November we start singing the Christmas carols, bee n doing them since I was a child. I love the song”I heard the Bells on Christmas Day”.
