The workout formulas (pre, post or overnight recover) that are actually good will be 2-4x more expensive than if you were to buy the ingredients they use in bulk and mix them together. You can actually go a step farther and find natural sources that contain those ingredients to save even more money. For example, processing raw pumpkin seeds into a powder can save you a lot compared to bulk refined ingredients.

There are a few statements, that I can't agree with. Saying that you absorb whey protein hydrolysate is not entirely true, because the di- and tri-peptides that it's composed of are not that easily absorbed by you intestines due to the fact, that the protein transporters in the cells are meant to transport more complicated proteins than peptides (due to the fact, that those peptides are not that common, when compared to proteins). That's btw. why EAA and BCAA don't build muscle and are used as a energy source (they go through a process called deamination and are broken down to pyruate acid which goes into a process called Krebs-cycle and are used as an alternate energy source). So, what is the best protein supplement (btw. they are not supplements... they are food, so use them like that... I use them for cooking, not only as a shake)? In my opinion, it would be a mixture of whey protein isolate and casein protein (those being a higher concentration ones like 80%+)

The Orgain simple organic peanut butter is my absolute favorite. Coconut sugar is a much better choice than regular sugar and “too much carbs” just really depends on your goals. Carbs are ultimately needed for protein absorption so if you are drinking it for a post workout protein than a lot of those proteins that have close to zero carbs won’t cut it.

Whey protein concentrate and casein have only been found to be inflammatory in some individuals. It's unfair to claim that you should avoid it altogether, although yes, I would prefer a whey isolate or hydrolyzed isolate be the first listed ingredient to make up a larger portion of the powder. Looking at nutrient timing (Brad Shoenfeld, Bill Campbell, every credible researcher) blends have been found to be superior compared to taking whey isolate alone. Your body needs 20-40 grams of protein every few hours and blends are recommended because each protein type digests at a different rate, giving you multiple levels of absorption, casein itself digesting within 6-8 hours (making it the perfect before bed protein powder to fulfill muscle protein synthesis while we are asleep seeing as we cannot eat asleep!)

Hi Thomas. I’ve been adding the Orgain Protein and Superfoods to my morning smoothie for a couple years now. I notice you were not a fan of the millet used in their superfood complex, and I’m curious to know more about the anti nutrient effect you mentioned. I understand that it can decrease iodine in the body, but if the amount is negligible in the protein powder does it really have a noticeable effect? I’m wondering if I should stop using that particular protein now.
@portiastgermain71704 жыл бұрын
He also wasn’t a fan of the rice bran in them and put them both back on the shelf. I think he said the rice bran blocked the mineral absorption from the list of super foods in their ingredients. I’ve been using Orgain for many years and am now thinking about looking for an alternative having a history of thyroid issues in my family.

Great video, incredibly informative, but still easy to follow. The only comment for improvement is about the Orgain peanut butter review. You said it was short sighted to use peanut flour because a lot of people have peanut allergies. That doesn't make a ton of sense considering that people with peanut allergies would not be looking to buy a peanut butter flavored protein powder. The peanut flour definitely helps to get the taste that they are looking for.

Dr. Paul Saladino said we should avoid pea protein, which use followed your recommendation. According to him, because of the high arsenic level in pea and rice protein we should avoid them. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Many thanks!

I wouldn't think they'd say "grass finished" on a milk product, because the cow isn't dead yet.
@JoeyHern4 жыл бұрын
Hmm makes sense. Maybe say 100% grass fed?

This was so helpful! I took notes! I love how you explained EACH of the ingredients. I have one question about the sunflower oil getting an "ok" cuz I thought that would be straight bad cuz sunflower oil is one of the BAD seed oils? Thank you - great vid!

Dude, just tell me which the best overall whey protein to buy !
@Ryan_DeWitt4 жыл бұрын
Any whey isolate from any reputable manufacturer will do. They all buy the the same raw materials from a few select manufacturers. Only difference is what other ingredients they add in particular the flavoring.

I saw this video it was very good information. I am 53 years old male and I work out at a local gym. Sometimes it seems like I need a good muscle building supplement. What are your thoughts on creatine and what type should I get. Thanks Ed

Thanks Tom, I just bought my boys the second brand in your review because they're both taking it. They are 16 and 19 and are actively working out. My youngest is training for football and at 5'10" he's bigger than his older brother. My wife and I just happened to be at Costco last weekend getting some almond flour and some other things. It wasn't supposed to be a lot but we always seem to spend no less than $200 every time we go there. What brand would you recommend? Not necessarily at Costco but anywhere it's available. Thank You in advance. Frank M.
