Yes whilst we know it’s not strictly the Jones act - rather the Passenger Vessel Services Act - they have both historically been referred to as the same thing. It’s actually a collection of three different acts.

Previous studies have shown that the type of RNA vaccine has caused auto immune diseases in the past. I’m predicting in the next year we’re going to see more deaths due to vaccinated people having autoimmune system failures in a different virus invades their body and their body reacts against it

The people of Alaska and their state government and federal representatives should push the US federal government really, really hard to change or suspend the passenger vessel services act. It is a ridiculous protectionist law that only does harm to the cruise industry and places like Alaska.

One potentially important thing to note is that the Canadian govt order does have clauses in it that would allow the order to be rescinded early if the situation improves significantly. I don't hold out too much hope though.

I'm Canadian, and I'm sorry that we are causing this disruption for the ports which are likely to be really badly affected economically by this news, relating to any Alaskan cruise and New England cruises for that matter. I just can't understand our government/transport ministry, banning cruise ships for a year ahead. I firmly believe that if vaccines are mandatory for future travel, these restrictions will be lifted well before March, 2022.

I just got back from a 3 nights cruise on world dream vessel by dream cruise. The steps the cruise liner as well as the authorities in Singapore had taken to ensure it is safe for everyone, is remarkable. Multiple temp screening from point to point on the ship. Hope you guys will be able to have cruises to nowhere soon!

Oh my gosh. We had a cruise scheduled for Alaska last year changed it to this year now we changed it to July of 2022. Alaska is my favorite. I so love love love Ketchikan, Alaska. I had my 1st vaccine on 1/14 getting my 2nd on the 11th this month. My Husband had his 1st on 1/29 and his 2nd is on the 21st. I got mine early as I am a 1st responder here in America. I care for the developmentally disabled because someone has to be for them. Take care you two. Hope someday to go on a cruise with you.

So sorry for everyone who is booked on a cruise for Canada, Alaska & New England. I have a cruise booked with NCL in Sept around the Med. in my heart of hearts I feel that if it happens then amazing but a big part of me is expecting the worst. I have had my first jab just today but with the mutations who knows if we will be fully protected? All I can say is take care and stay safe.

We booked a cruise on the MSC magnifica for February 14 and we were informed yesterday that is has been canceled but we were able to change our cruise to the Grandiosa . They provide us with an upgrade from interieur cabine to a cabin with balcony what is a very nice gesture from MSC, so 🙏🤞

We had the shutdown on cruise in 2020 and 2021 in Australia 🇦🇺 they may not cruise until late 2021 into 2022 somewhere will wait and see for sure on that. On a different note sad for Canada 🇨🇦 for their cruises not going for another year ouch!

I work for UnCruise Adventures based in Seattle. All of our small ships carry less than 90 people. We are flagged in the US, so the ban does not affect us. We plan on starting cruising in May up in Juneau. This is adventure cruising, not port visits. Whale watching, kayaking, hiking, etc, gourmet food and alcohol included. Juneau needs those tourist dollars. Just wanted to let your viewers know that there will be cruise in Alaska this summer.

You guys are my top source for cruise news (commented awhile ago about the ridge wallet and asked about how your cards could be disabled etc without one :)) and just three or so weeks ago, my birthday cruise that was leaving out of San Diego got canceled (it's for OCTOBER 2022) I JUST now got my refund back. I called and even though they say in fine ish print that calling won't speed it up, I really think it did because my booking was just frozen on screen saying I still was going but after I called the woman canceled it for me and made it so I wouldn't get a penalty and refunded me the money that way. So I do suggest calling just to make sure everything runs smoothly (Speaking about Carnival Cruises, by the way!) better safe than sorry. Anyway, there is a happy ending to this story; although I won't be sailing to the same destination anymore, and have to fly to a different state all together, I did book another cruise with them AND I got my birthday dates still AND I got a better (MUCH better!) room! So there you go. Just hoping this one doesn't get canceled either. And for the record I booked the original cruise in 2020 with hope that a TWO YEAR FROM THEN cruise would actually operate. Smh. Oh well. First ever cruise times two I guess, lol. Take care, guys! :D

Our little town of Skagway, Alaska is in a state of absolute shock and sadness. We survived last summer without the ships and managed to hang on all winter with the hope that things will get better this spring. We are in trouble!! Without the ships, we have nothing😥

NO one is commenting or mentioning another route which will be cancelled: The very much loved Autumn Colours - East Coast USA and Canada New England sailings which usually run in Sept / Oct. As an ex seaman on both RCCL & NCL we used to embark out of Boston MA, New York NY, Bayonne, NJ, Baltimore MD and all these sailings need to call on Canadian ports because of the Jones Act

One minor correction to the video. The Passenger Vessel Services Act also prohibits a cruise from one US port to a different US port without a stop in a foreign port. So Seattle to Anchorage is out as well. AND, the way the Canadian ban is worded a ship can't even pass through the passage between Victoria Island and the mainland, even if it doesn't stop. Without a wavier of the PVSA requirements lots of jobs in cruise ports and Alaska are gone, at least for now. :-(

If cruising to and from LA or San Diego to Alaska, they can stop in Ensenada, Mexico and that would take care of the (outdated) Jones act. So if the cruise lines want get the OK to start back up in Alaska and the lines want to operate, there is the work around.

Me too from Seattle. A friend of mine works for Anthony's Restaurants in the Northwest region, and I like going down to the Anthony's Home Port down on Pier 66 for drinks and dinner because the cruise ships are usually getting ready to depart. I would give you my reaction, but it was basically a long incoherent scream. This eliminates my September Princess cruise in Alaska and October NCL cruise repositioning from Vancouver to LA (my June Quantum OTS to Alaska was already cancelled). Oh well. We’re moving towards healthier times with additional vaccine approvals likely soon, and that’s good news.

Many of us in the USA are advocating for alteration of the Jones Act (or at least a waiver for 2021) for ships departing from a US port in the contiguous 48 states that visit at least one port in Alaska or Hawaii, and I think there is traction there in our lobbying efforts.

If you haven’t cancelled by now, you were probably issued a Future Cruise Credit instead. The amount you paid may still be refundable but you wouldn’t get any bonus credit.

In Upstate NEW YORK the distribution of the vaccine as been all over the place. Currently we have to book an appointment online. First responders hospital employees, school and child care employees are eligible for the vaccine. The elderly are also eligible however I'm hearing different stories on the difficulty level of seniors ability to book their appointments.

Yikes. No, Fall Foliage cruises this year. Maybe the US would waive cabotage laws and lines could do NYC-Bar Harbor trips with an overnight in Boston (?). Only other option would be to sail all the way up to St. Pierre (France) off the coast of Newfoundland. That's a long way, though.

A couple of notes on vaccines. First, distribution of vaccines in the U.S. is almost all through the private sector, with the order guided by the federal government, but ultimately determined by the individual states. Second, I can't find another source for Ponant requiring vaccines. Can you share that, or will it become obvious later today? I'd think Ponant would be too busy cursing Kiwi immigration to bother with vaccines at this point.
