Huge factory fire sends smoke billowing across Staffordshire towns | SWNS

Residents have described hearing loud explosions 'like a plane crash' or a 'bomb going off' after a huge industrial fire broke out in a Staffordshire town.
Emergency services descended on Cannock after the massive inferno broke out at a parcel centre at around 6am this morning (Thurs).
Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing into the air - which could be seen from as far as 20 miles away in Tamworth.

They get away with not having fire safty measures, such as sprinkler systems and fire breaks, because they are only a single story structures. When a fire starts in one of these, there's no stopping it and it's one of the most dangerous fires for the Fire Service to tackle.

As a ex South African fireman living in the UK, I'm surprised at how little fire safety you guys have on site. No sprinklers to help contain the spread. No booster connections outside to help boost the sprinkler pressure. Or onsite emergency booster pumps and emergency water tanks that kick in when the sprinkler system is activated. No standpipes inside the buildings or outside. No fire boxes containing hoses and nozzles that the fire marshals on site should be trained to use. And no such on site training for companies. You rely solely on your fire brigade, which is fine if you had 50% of the stuff I just mentioned to slow down the spread of fire and contain it until the fire brigade arrive. But right now this is the outcome of 90% of all future fires.
