I am 71 and I have never sharpened my own chains. From watching you, I went out and got me some grinding stones and sharpened my saw, it worked great. Now I don't have to spend the time putting on new chains. I touch it up at the end of each session. Those big rounds were tough, even tougher when the saw is dull. When cutting dirty wood, it is a waste of time to sharpen, especially when you just have 2 pieces to do. People need to realize if they do a little each time they can, that eventually it will build up. Always enjoy your videos Chris.

When moving a pile of rounds to the splitter you could load a dump trailer, then when splitting you don't have to pick pieces up from the ground 😊

You can do it! I started very small. I had one small chain saw and a splitting mall and a borrowed utility trailer. The main thing is to get cutting and making firewood NOW, it takes time to dry and build a customer base. Get busy!

funny, I brought out my 455 rancher out last week end and did the same thing. My neighbor took down a 75 year old ash and I told the the guys cutting down the tree I'll take the wood and they pulled the dump truck to the back of my property and had three of those huge base rounds that i chain sawed so I can lift them. It produced ringlets of wood as I was using the chainsaw and I said great I'll put it in my rabbit cage in his box , thought he would enjoy the warmth it would produce. with in minutes the rabbit dragged all of it out. I guess he hated it. LOL

40:36 what I usually do when (Dirt-) piles are getting smaller: I grab with the bucket over the piles crown and pull the pile towards me. It makes it longer and more easy to push into it and more easy to pick up, what’s in the pile.

You made appearances around the midwest. Plus, I am sure your house is not running itself. Stuff breaks. sometimes just from looking at it. Keeping up on the Honey Do List and add in family time. You are still bowling a 300. I hope when I get your age I can do some of the things. Except electrical and photography. Oh wait, I am older than you.

Just wondering why do you split those small 2-3" limb pieces? Is it just you were in the groove and thinking about those things our minds wonder to when we're doing repetitious chores, or do they need to be opened up to dry completely in your experience? I don't split anything that small and just stack it whole, with the split pieces. Am I screwing up?
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard Жыл бұрын
I split exevthing to be sure it dries fast. Really though anything smaller than 3-4 inches is not really necessary UNLESS it is oak.

Highbred maple. Were it's parents nobility in the Kingdom of the Maple??😅 Looks very much like Norway maple. Was it hard, heavy and fine grained? When i find that stuff, it goes RIGHT in my truck. Good substitute for sugar maple, as it smells just as good. Just not quite the BTUs. Its a hard maple variety. For us hand splitters, its dream wood, as it splits easier than pretty much anything. Got a bunch of it in my neighborhood. Prone to root rot in very wet soil, so they get cut back/ down occasionally. Maintenance usually tells me when one is coming down, as they know i love it for grilling. (I have to buy sugar maple...)
