I've seen most of your videos but can't remember whether you've ever gone to the Chinatown in Flushing, Queens. If not, you have to go. It's the real Chinatown in NYC, just like Arthur Ave in the Bronx is the real Little Italy.
@loodakris5928 Жыл бұрын
@@61hink Flushing is pretty cool. Has a great mix of old and new. Sad to see that the Chinatown in new york city is slowly disappearing due to gentrification and high cost of real estate.

Grandpa is super cool and handsome, young and old. Boston Chinatown is definitely underrated, has great food. This is coming from a native NYer, now living in the Bay Area and been to many great Chinatowns and cities including Vancouver/Toronto, Philly, HK, Singapore, Thailand, etc.

A lot of his friends and family are longer here😭😭😭😭. I cried when you mentioned that, it sucks when getting older and people whom you knew in your life already passed on one by one. Watching this reminded me of my dad and grandfather whom they passed on, will never forget the things and activities we did and bonded together . Miss those days so much...

Those B&W photos remind me of my dad, when he moved to Canada. Snazzy suits and stylish sunglasses. Love the Boston Chinatown vibe. Good cheap eats too. I remember the time when my ba, took us to Boston's Chinatown, in 1972. He had friends and relatives there. We were making our way down to Florida. RIP, pop.

I lived in Boston for about 10 years and Chinatown is one of the biggest parts/reasons why I miss that city. I would go every single weekend for groceries at this one place. It had such good produce and frozen dumplings. And there was (maybe still is?) a hot pot restaurant that was my go-to for dates. It was very simple and fresh, but for some reason impressed people lol damn this video pulled at my heart! And speaking about the OGs finding a gathering spot, there used to be a McDonalds in Chinatown, you could not ever sit down. There was never a line to order food, but the restaurant seats were full, seriously, not an empty seat, just because people were nursing a coffee and hanging out. Boston's Chinatown is so damn charming.

Chinatown Boston rocks! I didn’t get any usual Chinese restaurant food , but the Dim Sum spot is the one in the huge old fancy theater! The guy who owns it is the “Mayor” of Chinatown. Awesome guy! The Boss!

I'll search for special Cantonese Foods and have never had some of the items that you and goong goong ate! Roast Pork Puff, Curry Beef Puff, Cubed Radish Cake, Beef & Tofu with black bean sauce - and TWO places to try the rare Clay Pot Rice! Excited to visit Boston again. Big THANKS for referring to the foods in their CANTONESE NAMES first (in all your videos), normalizing this while casually explaining the food. This doesn't go unnoticed (what Asian-America looks like), alongside the wholesome & fun interview style & editing. Thank you!

I don't mean to sound ignorant but each city has places within that are a little different from the norm and I know many from Asia visit China town.

07:40 he's telling his grandfather about the 2am and 3am chinatown life. 😂 Bro. Your Grandfather work in Ctown during the "Combat Zone" era of Boston Ctown. Chinatown was 24/7. It was the red-light district of Massachusetts. During the day time, it was all chinese people that were allowed in Ctown. At night, all the non Asians visited Boston for the strip clubs, prostitutes, and adult entertainment theaters, gambling, and drugs. The Chinese restaurants made a killing. The modern 2am and 3am club scene is vanilla to what your grandfather or most OGs that worked in Ctown have seen or experienced. West of Beach St. and Washington St was door to door of strips, with nude pictures of their strippers displayed for advertisements and strippers standing on display behind glass windows. Navy sailors that docked into Charlestown would walk into Chinatown at night for the nightlife. The streets were littered with prostitutes, naked to half naked women all over the place. Believe it or not, it was complete madness. Chinatown did not sleep. Many restaurant owners were mad at city officials when they closed the adult entertainment industry in Ctown because it cost their revenue.

Im from Southie and ive always loved how tight Chinatown is. Its the only part of Downtown Boston that hasnt been totalky gentrified out of existence. Two of my favorite streets in Boston are there. Aesthetically i mean. Harvard St. and Johnny Court. Even the Combat Zone couldnt kill Chinatown. Back in the late 60s the city dictated a large chunk of chinatown, Theater District and Bay Village as the adult entertainment area. They literally drew a red line around it. Hookers pimps strip clubs gloryhole booths ...think times square in the 70s.
