I think the elementary school sized pit was getting into the heads of the jumpers especially the guys. Anything north of 6ft is impressive at a backyard meet like this. Good job to everyone

@@martyd2110 not the worst avoidable track accident. I got goosed by a pole vault standard after not having enough momentum going into the pit. I still hung on to the pole (as if that was safer than falling) but it took me into the standard. Mundo Deplantis, I was not.

It might be more disappointing than you think :P High jumpers (I'm also one) don't have the most power. Rather highjumping is an elastic sport... so our bounce is good, but our power isn't that amazing (though it should still be very well above average). Long jumpers, shot-putters and sprinters could be real impressive though!

Fun fact: Charles was only 2.25" shy of the women's world record for high jump (6'10.25") that's insane. Of course, men's is 8' 0.25" which is simply bonkers.

My school set a new boys high jump record by our varsity basketball Small Forward, he cleared 7'1 but his highest official pb is 7'0 because the bar raises by 2 inches but he couldn't clear 7'2 so he tried 7'1 and got it but it didn't count 😕

He could be a high school state champ. I live in Wisconsin and we had 3 kids jump over 6'9", and 4 kids jump over 6'4" at this years division 1 state championship. For a state that doesn't have great weather year round, that's insane!

Lol no. 6'8" is impressive, but it is like the top end of high school competition. You have to be clearing nearly 7'6" just to meet the qualifying standards for U.S. olympic team. Maybe if he keeps working hard at it he can get there in a few years, but not really close as of this video.

PR without spikes on. Nice job. my PR from college was 5'6". So great job everyone. I have white man's disease so going higher was never possible. My form was perfect to make 5'6". Charles looked like he had a 6"10" or even 7' in him. With some coaching I think he could do it.

Love this, thank you for creating such a great event to showcase this amazing sport. My only suggestion is putting a topper on the mats to cover the separation of mats especially for the athletes scissoring as this is so easy to catch an ankle and break.... I've had an athlete loose a season and never really get back to where he was due to the injury. Keep up this great work. ❤
