I’m a welder & fitter. So hearing that you’ll be learning how to weld, makes me excited. The first most important thing you need to know is safety. No skin showing, or you’ll tan easily by the UV. Second is comfort. You need to be comfortable, if you’re not comfortable, you can screw up easily. With SMAW, which is stick, it needs to light up like a match, just strike it. Make sure you also remove all the flux after you’re done a weld, like once you finish a bead, clean it, otherwise you could end up with flux inside the weld, and it’ll weaken the weld itself and cause defects. Also, WELDERS TRICK!!!: 1/8th of an inch away. 1/8th is a welders lucky number! You need to work on your tie-ins, plus your speed, but that’s all I see that needs work :) I’m extremely happy to see that there’s no undercutting!! You’re a lot better than a lot of new welders that I know!

The new saying is going to be “I’m a Matt of all trades”
@bjlewis54315 жыл бұрын
And don't forget 'Voss'd' either.. I commented this, on a point made by Ian S, on another of Matt's vids. [When i find it again, I'll leave a link here..or if anyone else already can, please do so]. Check it out..I think you'll like it, and what better legacy for a friend. With a connotation of the pheonix, (or the Demo Ranch Eagle!) Rising from the ashes!

. I took some welding summer classes because I needed 5 credits to graduate. I really enjoyed it . Between stick, mig, and torch cutting I really enjoyed mig welding . Just that stick welding was hard to control it etc . Matt u should get some classes, you'll really enjoy it .

I find aluminum easy to be honest. Hardest time I had with aluminum was on a yacht that was built out of ukranian aluminum that had a very high magnesium content. That shit made me want to pull my hair out

Remember the ABC's of welding Matt, Always be comfortable. Makes it much easier if you can get into a position comfortable to make the entire joint in.

A good welder does his vertical welding UP never down. Yes, down is easier for looks but harder to get the proper penetration.

It depends on the rod. 6011 (probably what they're using) is always downhill. 60,000 lbs. Per square inch will hold handrail just fine.
@stephengordon89685 жыл бұрын
Yes they were running 6011 it's fine for tubing , its basically a maintenance type welding rod .

His hood is called a pancake hood for anyone thinking it looks “homemade” it’s handy for welding pipe because it’s lightweight and because of its design it keeps any sunlight from hitting the back of your lense...one of my favorite hoods, killer welds🤘
