@@alfonsoandjessica If you visit Kolkata, Manzilat's near Ruby Hospital crossing is a must... for Mutton Biryani and other Awadhi cuisine. The restaurant is run by Chef Mazilat Fatima and she's a direct descendent of Wajid Ali Shah who started the Kolkata Biryani in his court. [ *P.S. You need to pre-book, preferably a day or two in advance* ] There are a few other places you should visit as well... including Hondo's at Prince Anwar Shah Road. It's a very small 24x7 joint that serves delicious food... mostly steaks. And of course... you must try authentic Calcutta Fuchka, with spiced tamarind water (not mint ones - that Golgappa culture). EDIT: Please try to time your visit past the 15th of December. Otherwise, Kolkata is too hot and uncomfortable. Also, Park Street in Kolkata is 'the' place to be during Christmas in India.

Kofta is a sort of dumpling. Malai kofta cooked mostly with white creamy gravy. Malai is a type of Clotted cream.

The word 'Malai' in Indian cuisine doesn't come from 'cream' - that's a misconception. It comes from 'Malay' (relating to Malaysian curries)... and it means 'creamy' - nothing to do with dairy products. Same thing with the dish Prawn 'Malaicurry' in Bengali Cuisine.
