I would definitely look into slabbing that Walnut and stacking it to dry for a few years sooner than later. Also might want to paint the ends so they don't check and split on you. Don't want to waste any of that nice wood. Maybe a nice builtin for Jennifer's new house you can do?

Things are moving along great. That's a lot of fill both on the drive and on the build site, the one thing that worries me is that I didn't see a compactor. If that fill isn't compacted in lifts it will be trouble for years to come. Also the concrete pad for building will do nothing but settle and crack not fun. Stay safe.😊

They don’t want a concrete slab, they will be building a crawl space. Only slab for the garage and front porch. Then you will see one

Great job everyone, got a lot accomplished on both places. Hope the new house/barn dominium ground compacts and the floor doesn't crack up. You got the trench dug out finally and that is great. Jennifers house spot and driveway is coming along nicely👍🏼! Y'all could just leave the 40° angle on the mountain and after Jennifer walks on it about a year she'll have one leg shorter than the other leg like those mountain cattle that stand on a hillside all day long 😂🤣🤣

@@SmokyMountainOutpost yeah I know all my folks come from NC mountains very close to where you are now. Spent all my childhood there those cows look like they're standing on a straight up hillside. But I learned after I got old enough to go hiking and hunting those cows wear out multiple flat pathways along those hillsides and they walk those pathways and eat the grass from those pathways. From a distance they appear to be standing on a 45° angle but in fact they're standing on flat paths they've worn down. 😂

Hey. I got an ideal on that top 1 and 2 adjustable top link. Let me tell you what just figure out what the distance is. Find you a piece of steel that'll Go In Between there the same link. We'll get another top line so I can put it in there. Put your pins through it. Then use that to cut when you're using that. Digger, and then you won't have to worry about it. Breaking, then give when you need it for something else. Get you another top link, but make sure it's a category four or five.You ain't doing no good with one or two

I bet the ground needs some moisture. When digging the foundation holes it looked like the clay soil was really dry and hard. Would it have worked if you attempted this in the spring? I know you needed it now, so you will have to do some manual digging - bummer.

@nikromagnon
@nikromagnon Ай бұрын
You broke your 3rd point link because your digging tool is too deep in the ground, the link is more or less vertical and the efforts applied on it are no longer in line with. 3rd point longs are designed to accept traction or compression efforts in their length.

To take down living trees for your own pleasure , shame on you ...
@SmokyMountainOutpost
@SmokyMountainOutpost Ай бұрын
I understand everyone has different opinions on these matters, so I can respect that. No shame at all though, it’s not for fun or pleasure. We don’t partake in pleasure by knocking trees down. It’s to make room for family, so that they can move out of the city…(where they tear the entire land apart). We only take exactly what is needed and we try to keep as much as we can bc we like our area. We try to salvage as much as possible. Also, if anyone spends enough time around the forest they would be aware that some of the larger trees can compete for the canopy and it causes the smaller trees to essentially be stunted to a degree…and with there being an opening now, MANY of the smaller trees will be able to grow and flourish. The entire mountainside we are living and building on was once extremely bare before coming into our family. It has been growing for probably 40/50+ years. I’d venture to say that most resources that people use in the making of; or was used in the making of their home were produced from doing the exact same thing, cutting down a tree. The areas that people live in to a large degree, trees were cut down to make way for neighborhoods or roads. So unless someone is living entirely synthetic amongst the environment we live in on earth, then at some point materials/resources have been used or have been paid for to be used.. Even if someone builds a home with stone, it may have come from a quarry…they dug in the earth and extracted stone, now there is a gapping hole that people charge money for materials AND trees potentially were removed in the area…just to make a stone house.. Cinder block? Coals from wood… So to avoid any of this, everyone would need to live synthetically because there isn’t any way around it. Not unless they live in a tree and own nothing. Can’t drive a car…the manufacturer cut trees down potentially and built a massive complex to build cars…why then: go against cutting trees down, but then be contradicting by driving the car from the company that just cut all the trees down? Can’t really live 100% synthetically either though…an R&D facility was built somewhere to develop synthetically made things…in which trees were probably cut down to build the facility. Not every time, but a lot. No shame here at all, not for pleasure or fun…it’s for family and for life and sustainability. I know I labeled a few extreme examples in this message, and not everyone and everything falls into those categories. I respect your opinion to save trees, and I agree with you.
