Great tips and cautions. I just got a slow cooker for Christmas so now I feel better prepared when I go to use it the first time. Thanks.

I reheat the food stored in the slow cooker from the fridge all the time. Have never gotten sick nor anyone else.

Good tips. I knew most of them, but the paper towel tip was new. It explains some slow cooker fails I have experience.

If using frozen veggies or anything frozen with meat, it will take about an hour longer for meat to reach 160 degree temp...So I’ve experienced.

I don't know about that paper towel trick. Remember a slow cooker is still is generating heat on the inner pot Also the water condensation will weigh down the paper not to mention the steam is definitely going to weaken the paper integrity and I don't want paper being an extra ingredients for my food.😄

Tupapacu Use a cotton/ polyester dishtowel
@Tupapcu Жыл бұрын
@@RaysLaughsAndLyricsthat's a wiser idea. polyester is a bit more heat resistant but again you shouldn't be putting anything in a pot that's generating heat regardless how heat resistant it. if you want to get rid of the excess liquid just let it cook and when in the warming phase just remove the goddamn LED

I always make the mistake of using too much broth in my chicken or steak cubes. It's still pretty good, but the meat is so tender it falls off the bone or it breaks up easily but my family loves it that way so idk if that's a total loss lol😂🤷🏾♀️

Using less liquid can result in an overcook. I just learned this the hard way with bbq in a new crock pot. I can't stand the new ones. The manufacturer raised the temperatures dramatically. Cook on high? You can barely cook on low without burning bbq sauce. Old ones you could leave in there overnight. New ones bring liquid to a rolling boil within 3 hours on low. As for "less" liquid recommendation, just make sure it's more than half full capacity to slow the cook (on a new crock pot). It sucks. I'm literally going to trade a brand new one for a used one bc the manufacturers have created a product that can't perform it's intended task of slow cooking.

My slow cooker has a sautee function I use for reheating. When it's winter here I just leave the food in the crock pot.

Di not use paper towel to absorb cooker condensation .. Use a dish towel.. No wasted paper... wash and reuse the dish towel over and over.

sorry but if your bothered by the water dripping from under the lid when you cook don't bother using one and just use your oven.

I'm both disabled and have two auto-immune diseases. I don't work but use my slow cooker constantly. I also line it with cooking bags, so once it's cooled I just remove the bag, no need to lift the heavy pot to wash it. I wash the lid and that's it. Without my slow cooker I'd be extremely hungry. I'm unable to stand or sit for long, so stirring the pot contents occasionally, instead of baby sitting things cooked in an oven/ on a hob, and risking a severe burn is a win win for me!
