Congratulations Geoff on all the new subscribers, well on your way to 2K! Thanks for the layout refresher tour. My local station is a small country station with frequent steam tours during the year, so your plans have a good precedent! Love the idea of the return loop at the power station. Lots of scope for merry go round operations? To avoid obscuring trains and platform detailing you could opt for individual station canopies rather than an overall roof. Looking forward to the next video! And before I forget I counted the two Fred's 17 times.

Wow, Geoff. That was a stunning video - thank you for sharing, and a massive, massive congratulations on your 1650 subscribers - they are truly deserved. It was a treat to see your layout in its entirety. I think the way it is split into sections with scenic breaks is inspired, and the "complete" end withe the TMD and DMU maintenance area looks superb. I've already enthused over all of the other parts, but I particularly like the viaduct and the disused line coming off near the curve. The reverse loop in the power station is a great idea if you are sure you can fit it in. It can be as tight as possible if it is off scene. I have to say there's something I quite like about your "frosted" station. If you re-did the roof, it would look just like a badly-rendered building from the 1950s or so. Until you mentioned it was "wrong", I was thinking of asking you what texture you'd used, as I quite liked it - a bit like pebble-dash. Better suited to a small bungalow than a grand station though maybe. The running session at the end - loved it! Superb angles of Pride and its environs. It reminded me of the end of a documentary about life on the railways - the stirring music as the sun goes down and the trains run off through the dusk into night. Anyway, I saw the two Freds 17 times in total. I was disappointed that they didn't go rushing past on the flatbeds with the Transit vans at one point, so you lose a point for that. The shot of the GNER train speeding through the station, seen just as a peek through the station entrance - inspired! As was the helicopter shot a little later on when the HST passed the Class 91. Anyway, I've enthused enough, you will think I've been at the whisky again. Keep it up! -- Michael.

I'm pretty sure that I can get either R2 or possibly even R3 curves in the power station and I would use set track to avoid any problems. Yes the station texture is the Scalescenes Dressed Stone, pebbledashed in the Humbrol Matt Varnish from hell lol, feel free to try it. All the best, Geoff (Good luck in the draw)

@@PrideParkway Geoff, if the Humbrol Matt spray is anything like their brush-on stuff, the varnish soaks into the paper and leaves the white matting agent behind like happened on your station. Get some GLOSS enamel varnish and brush it on. Two coats. The matting agent will get re-dissolved and will disappear leaving the underlying texture visible. THEN do the matt varnish and you’ll be right. I used this technique to rescue part of my viaduct once and it worked really well. I always do gloss before matt now. May be worth a try if you don’t want to chuck your hard work out.

Really enjoyed this video as I’m a new subscriber, have a few videos to catch up on. I have been creating my layout for about 18 months from a lot of 00 stock I’ve had stored away and it has been a very interesting journey, especially with the current environment. Someone asked me early on when I thought the layout would be finished. I replied “never “. I think that’s the truth for all modellers. It is a journey without a destination. The return loop around the power station, is a great idea thats how the coal train in the 80's had the nickname merry-go-rounds. If you use google maps/earth for a place called Ferrybridge you can get a feel for the loop as it goes round the coal field.

congrats on the subs man :) believe it or not but the welcome in Dawlish warren is more or less on the tracks, admittedly the tracks are higher up and out the way but they still come almost as close as yours :) if you wanted to go a step further you could do like brunnel camping coaches also in dawlish warren, in some old mk1s sat line side in a old old siding thats know disconnected from the mainline, if you also search up the ribblehead viaduct im pretty sure that is a mainline that becomes a preserved on weekends, i counted 17 little dudes :)

Amazing layout. Just subscribed! Heard you mention your concern about gluing the DMU depot down because of track cleaning in an older video. I see your Gaugemaster track cleaner. Might I suggest getting a Sharge track cleaner to go with it if you haven't already. It's basically a CMX at half the price, think I paid £60 for mine, that rubs track cleaning fluid on to the rails and would be ideal for backing in the depot to give it a quick clean. It's also great for cleaning your rolling stock wheels if you turn it up a notch and let another train chase it. Ideal for your HST's with the working lights! ~Mike. Edit: Regarding the country station / weekend heritage station. Jacobite on the West Highland Line. Realistic! 👍

I've just taken a look at the Sharge track cleaner and it looks very good, I was put off the CMX due to the cost of it but this is much more affordable and great that it simply uses IPA. New subscriber Geoff & layout is looking really good even though as you say you still have plenty to do. Started watching vids from the start and always good to see a layout built from scratch. Station definitely better without a canopy but your layout so do as you please. Interested to know your thoughts on the real life HST in Pullman livery, personally I love it. Geoff, on your railway which in size is very similar to mine, what cable have you used for your bus wire and also what cable have you used for the point motors. As much detail would be very much appreciated as I am getting quite confused with regard to what cable I should be using. Now regarding the points, I am considering using Peco Electrofrog N Gauge Code 55, but am I right in saying the the pin can only go to the sides of the tiebar and not the centre in N gauge, if that makes sense. How do you cut the pin? Likewise I am hearing lots of good things about the Unifrog points but understand that is limited in its selection at the moment. Do you think it would be a good idea to wait as I am a long way from laying track the way I am going on of late. Regards Chris

Hi Chris, Hope you're keeping well! Let me try and answer your questions for you: Wire - So when I had the garage layout I bought the Express Models DCC starter kit which included the bus wire, dropper wire and clips to connect the two together. I hated the clips so when I moved to the loft I used terminal blocks instead. As for the wire, I took myself off to Squires Models (not very far from me) with a sample of both wires from the garage and the guys matched me up with both wires. If you drop me an email [e-mail] I can send you a sample piece of both wires. For the point frogs and point motors, I use the same wire as the dropper wire. I also use the dropper wire for LED's in buildings etc. Points - I'm a massive fan of the Unifrog points, however currently, they only come in medium radius, I am fine with that as the long points take up a lot of space, even on a big layout. I find the unifrog much more reliable than the electrofrog version and you don't have to mess on with insulated joiners Pins - I cut them with an old pair of track cutters, works for me :) Hope that all helps, Cheers Geoff

Thank you. Thats one of the issues with it, i can't. So it means bringing out the four trains i'm running and then putting the hatch down. I could of course install a camera but i think a complete rethink will be in order. Good luck in the draw :)

Hi Geoff really love the scenics on your layout but I'm sure I say that everytime lol. Just a thought on the station, as you used to like it have you thought of dismantling it and using the parts as a template and make a copy of it in plasticard. I did it with a pub that I got from scalemodel scenery but I didn't like the colour of the brick paper so made it in plasticard and painted it as I wanted it. You can just bin that idea now lol. As for the Fred's I think I spotted them 17 times. Congratulations on the 1650+ subscribers but when you produce something as good as you have then its totally understandable take care mate atb Andy

Thanks Geoff. Do you find that the insulation you've used is adequate and keep the loft warm in the winter and cool in the summer? Great video, thanks for sharing! The two Fred's appear 19 times!

Hi, So in a nutshell yes i'm very happy with the Super Quilt insulation. Its a great price, complies with building regs (in the UK), quick and easy to install. In winter the loft never drops below 10-12oC (I also have a small radiator). In summer it can get to the high 20's so bareable but my biggest regret is not putting in enough ventellation to clear out the hot air, the insulation is so good that it keeps the heat in.
