Hi Geoff. Power of work done there, does look much better seeing the running lines going through. I quite liked the view at the end when you had a few of the sidings uncovered and just the box to the far right in, but then it would be difficult to link up the scenes then. It just reminded me of Polmadie Depot in Glasgow where the main lines run straight throught the middle of the massive yard. Cheers, John.

What a superb improvement, Geoff. That is going to look absolutely superb once it's all dressed in retaining wall stone; especially from the camera angle you showed at the end. I'd LOVE a layout where I could just watch the trains go by. Brilliant update - hope to see more soon! (And the finishing of the heritage station...) All the best... Michael.

Hi Geoff, that’s a much better set up mate, well thought out! I’ve got say those DCC Concepts point motors are easy to use although I do have some tricky spots to get to. They load into my Z21 so easily that when I first put one in I thought I’d got it wrong because it worked first go!!! What I am really looking forward to is you building the town scene up there, it’ll look great I’m sure. Nice idea with the cutting too, that’ll give some great views as the trains come through. Your layout is great and it is really coming together, cheers Geoff, John

It’s looking good. The quality finish you apply to every aspect such as reinforcing to the new rear enclosure is impressive. I know it’s your design, layout etc but am hoping you don’t mind one wee suggestion. I would do away with the covering to the storage yard closest to where you stand. I would keep the far away one as it allow continuation of the road scene. However, why not just simplify things and have an open and detailed storage yard. They do exist in real life. It’s a train layout. People prefer to see the trains rather than town scenes. Remember Town scenes tend to be stagnant in nature where as the more you see trains moving(even if through a storage yard) the better. I would defo drop the idea of covering this storage area. Hope you don’t mind. Love the layout by the way.

Hi there I did not like your first storage area because it meant handling the trains. Re your new idea, what I do not understand about your storage/fiddle yard is how do you get the trains out of the storage area onto the right track without them going into a scenic area, possibly the wrong way. My layout is in my loft which is a room with stairs and the fiddle yard part of my layout is under the eaves. My layout is on castors so I can move it forwards so far but I still had to crawl on hands and knees to access it. My plan is to have trains in each siding, my sidings have points at each end and I have installed a wifi cam to watch the trains in the sidings. My idea being I can run trains in and out of the sidings without having to keep crawling round the back. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing how it all pans out..

Wow Geoff that is some construction mate. Your future plans I have to say look absolutely brilliant but how do you know what is in each siding? I have a similar problem with my fiddle yard which will be hidden behind the chimney. I have to say I have never fitted a point before and I am dreading it, the wiring up looks so confusing. No doubt hands on will make it much easier but I am still dreading it. Definatly no three pointers lol. Loving what you are doing Geoff, keep the videos coming mate. Regards Chris

Great to see another video from your layout Geoff. Excellent idea you have put into practice and I agree it will make better use of your available space. I’ve never been a great fan of fiddle yards and the “wasted” space for what could be scenic. Look forward to seeing how it develops.

Hi Geoff Looks like a lot of hard work and time to change the old storage yards. The view looking from the tunnel mouths through the station throat and into the platforms look great. That view makes the changes worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing the progress of the cutting Take care Best regards Jeff
@melfordhorrocks33273 жыл бұрын
The storage yard is a clever idea which I’m interested in playing around with. I’ve always found that when you have an end to end layout as I had, you wasted 3 to 4 feet (00 gauge) as a fiddle / storage yard. Thanks for the idea, Mel

That's looking a lot better Geoff! great way of utilising the scenic's and keeping your sidings hidden. On thing I would do is add some mini trunking underneath to encapsulate your lighting wire for the buildings above and have a plug/socket arrangement on one end so it can all come of and just disconnect. All the best Tony

Hi Geoff that new cutting looks really impressive and will make for some great running shots. Nice job on the storage yard as well. I've used insulated points in my yard to get the same results of not having the decoders constantly drawing power. Nice plans for the town scene also. A shameless plug here I've got a free to enter competition on my latest video still time to enter. Atb Andy
@davidmumford55753 жыл бұрын
Great update, Geoff, and will give you a lot more operational flexibility. I'm curious why you decided to install switches to the storage lines - is there some damage caused to the decoders by being live all the time? Presumably you can turn the coach lighting off when the train is not running via a decoder? Or am I missing the point?
@PrideParkway3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. So the Dapol light bars don't have decoders, they take power from the tracks so they are constantly drawing power, as I can have six full length HST's on the layout at any time thats 48 light bars plus all of the loco decoders all drawing power. Its also a big of a safety net, if i get a short on the running lines I know it won't affect anything is storage as they are isolated. Cheers Geoff

Hi Geoff, it was lovely to hear from you mate. Hope all good your way and that you get a video out soon hint hint. I have made yet another mate on KZbin model railways. He lives in Crawley, has worked on the railway since he was 15 and still works for them in a huge railway signal station thingy. He is 66 and has a very technical layout at the end of his back garden. We are in the process of working out a day I can visit him, he only lives at Crawley. Anyway I am slowly going through his videos and finally came to this one and immediately thought of you. Remember that turntable motor I told you about, he has one fitted and highly rates it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaWad5SjmpaHqaM&ab_channel=Tony This shows it in action and of course you can see his channel on here. Hope to speak to you soon. Regards Chris

Hi Geoff - I will be purchasing points soon and I was hoping to go down the Unifrog route but I see they still only supply medium left and right points in our range. I was thinking of using only large points on my layout or do you think that's a bit unrealistic. So I am at a dilemma as to what to do, any suggestions? Will you be attending the International N Gauge Show in September by any chance? Regards Chris
@PrideParkway3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, yes and Peco don’t seem very forthcoming with information as to when the large radius might be available. I’ve been very happy with the medium radius and I’m a massive fan of the unifrog, even when the frog isn’t wired up it’s super reliable. I’m hoping to, depending on what’s happening with work, but I’d like to attend if I can 👍🏻. All the best, Geoff

Any tips about construction layout in loft?
@PrideParkway3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, apologies for the delayed response. My honest advise it that unless you can afford to have the loft insulated, and have a window installed I would avoid it. My insulation is great in winter but still really hot in summer and as I don’t have a window it’s impossible to cool down. My previous layout was in the garage and it was a much better option with hindsight! Cheers Geoff

Would a diamond crossing not do the same job Or do they not make them
@PrideParkway3 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, no different jobs. The single slip is in effect two points but the same size as a cross over. The single slip allows you to set three different routes where as the crossover does not. Hope that makes sense. All the best, Geoff
