Zach, this news story is false. Microsoft is still enforcing tpm 2.0 and its other hardware restrictions for Windows 11. The PCWorld article incorrectly cites a Microsoft support document from the 21H2 era. If someone attempts to install on or upgrade unsupported hardware the installer will still fail, citing unsupported hardware as the reason for it failing.

nope the article states it 10 december 2024

@HASH-GAMES21 can you produce official Microsoft documentation stating it is allowing installs on older hardware? Because all of the research is have done shows no official information from Microsoft changing course. Because I can cite a Windows central article from yesterday, and about half a dozen other articles from the past week that assert that PCWorld misquoted old Microsoft support threads and Microsoft is in fact not allowing direct installation on older hardware. I'd be happy if MS changes course as I have a lot of old hardware, but I don't think they are changing their minds.

Except they aren't. That was a misconception, they're still doubling down on the TPM 2.0 requirement, which is gonna be impossible since many people either don't have that in their motherboard, cannot afford a motherboard with it built in, or cannot afford a new computer entirely JUST to upgrade to Windows 11. At best what Microsofr should be doing is removing the TPM 2.0 requirement and make Secure Boot be the only thing mandatory, with TPM 2.0 being optional, since not alot of people have that on their motherboards.

It works perfectly fine. No problems on an 12 years old pc. I was able to bypass TMP and online setup. I completely bypass everything and installed like a regular Windows installation. I didn't need it to register an account online, I did some tweaking and disabled tracking software and a bunch of useless services. Is actually a very fast Operating System. I will recommend a 2.0Gh CPU 8Gb of Ram 1Gb GPU and 250GB Solid State Drive. You can use a regular hard drive but it might run a bit slow. I have it installed in 3 system and it runs fine on all 3 the minimal I have it running is 1.6Gh CPU 1Gb GPU and 250Gb Hard drive. The most is a 12 years old 8 core 4.0Gh CPU 32GB Ram 8Gb GPU and 500Gb SSD OS with 8Tb Hard Drive Storage, Runs perfectly fine no lag or problems. In my point of view they were trying to trash old hardware because there is too many old PCs running perfectly fine and hardware are not being updated as it used to creating Lost on profits on new hardware. Also hardware has hit its maximum. The only things upgraded on older PCs in GPUs and Storage / SSD. There is not more to it on OS but only security update and some new GUI Upgrades/ Downgrade. In simple terms hardware is too fast compared to Operating system. This is why Microsoft was trying to trash older PC to make you buy something you don't need, but they lost.

@@fraskf6765 Download KB3102810, 32 or 64 bit version depending on your version you have. After installation and rebooting, you can go ahead and go to Windows 7 update inside Windows and tell it to update. You most likely will have to update a few times to get all the available updates.

I’d go back to Windows 7 if I could. At least there when searching for a file you’d actually find it.

Hell bring back windows 8.1. It was great compared to Windows 11 from what I’ve used. I really feel that window is 8.1 Is what Windows 11 should be now! In the meantime, I’m sticking with 10 until I get a new system

I actually installed windows 11 on my 11 year old unsupported laptop (asus n56jn) through registery edit and stuff and i haven't had any stability problem for the past 2 years. If anything, my laptop has been smoother and more stable. So if you hesitate to install win11 on unsupported systems, don't be. Just install it and i guarantee that nothing's gonna happen

The problem I have is my cpu still isn't supported even though the old PC works fine. I won't be upgrading it. I'll just disconnect from the internet because it doesn't need an internet connection. This PC will eventually be upgraded.
