Rusty is one of my childhood heros. I had clips out of SCR and Circle Track magazines on the walls of my bedroom of all the big 90s racing historic moments. He was a big part of that. He deserves every award coming to him. Bless your family. A solid part of racing history.

Rusty has been my driver since I was like 6 years old when I first saw that midnight MGD car. I’d love to see him race in some capacity again. Shame it sounds like it’ll never happen.

All the old drivers are afraid of not being great. It’s not about us fans they can’t watch the field drive by.
@maribiddle58597 ай бұрын
No, so much has changed since the good old days. I think they should put the retired drivers out there in a race if their own in the old school NASCAR... back when it made sense.

Great stuff. The Ken Schrader story, never knew he was missing; a thumb. Had to hurt a bit. I nipped the tip of my finger off along with shaving the side of the bone(middle finger,right hand) when i was a plastics fabricator around 79. We had this new fangled plastic called lexan, and i was making windshields and rear spoilers for a lot of local guys out here in Vegas for their A cars (late models today). To this day if my hands get real cold that buggar smarts just like the day i did it, was no fun at all!

I remember Rusty at Sears Point in 1992. Of all the drivers in that race it was only him and Alan Kulwicki that went to the fence afterward and greeted us fans. Rusty really had the crowd going too. He was one of the most genuine people ever to race. You could tell he truly loved what he did.
@jimmy73767 ай бұрын
I really love to listen to him on MRN when I catch a race. He explains everything so well and when they ask his opinion on something, I feel like there is no spin. Glad he had a great weekend. He deserves it!

I think the same thing.i remember when he did tv for espn.i don't know if he was just new at it and kinda held back or what but he is great on radio.they said when the new TV deals get done another network may get 6 races.i hope they give rusty another shot at tv.

I used to work for Rusty’s PR man. RW has always had the talking skills and was a hands on driver. I think now they just put on a uniform and drive the car. It’s just not the same anymore. It does not even have the family feel. We need more Rusty’s out there.

I still remember feeling so proud I was a Rusty Wallace fan watching him jump from the roof onto the bear on the hood of his Kodiak 27 after winning his championship. I'm still a big NASCAR fan, and I have drivers that I like to see win more than others, but Rusty was the last driver that I ever called MY driver. So happy for him continuing to succeed beyond his driving years. I do wish he would reconsider running an SRX race or two.

I went to the Rockingham race in October of 1999 and we were watching happy hour when I heard that Rusty was going to be at his merchandise truck to sign autographs. So I left happy hour and went there and waited in line for him to sign my Rusty hat, when I got up there for him to sign it I was absolutely star struck and couldn’t even get out a simple “thank you” as a 13 year old boy. I stopped watching racing for the most part when he retired, he is a true legend in every way.

Very nice to see Rusty - he seems so much more relaxed than when he was driving years ago. It did not look like there were many fans in the stands at the Las Vegas race today even though the weather was beautiful. Was a extremely boring race to watch on TV unfortunately.

Everyone was in Dallas watching Tony Stewart's wife Leah Pruett win Top Fuel and take over the World Championship points lead and her teammate Matt Hagen win Funny Car and extend his points lead. This was Tony's first double up. Took the sting out of losing his own World Championship bid, when Julie Nataas won the semi-finals in her A/Fuel car. Julie went on to win the event. She also won her third consecutive Jeg's All-Star Championship Saturday.

For the younger race fans out there the racing you see today is completely different from when Rusty raced to say the least. When Rusty was a young man racing they needed to win or place well to continue racing and pay their bills. Back then the price money was their main source of income which put them under intense pressure. The cars were simpler and more dangerous and much harder to drive again adding more pressure on the teams and the drivers. That is why you saw driver fights and crew fights more often. Pressure has a way of making you lash out when you've been done wrong. It was just so different!! So much it is hard to explain.

Very cool. Funny, I think my son still has one of the Elvis die casts I bought him at the inguinal Vegas race. The locals working in the hotels/casino's had no idea why all these people were in town. Rusty being the salesman he's always been; selling the popularity of NASCAR....I had to laugh, not with these "IROC" cars and the rule book.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for 53 years, and now for the last 2 years have lived in Orlando, Florida. Being from the Midwest, racing was huge for me. My Dad was involved in Dirt Late Model Racing, and I have been at the track since I was 3 months old. 2 of the biggest names in asphalt late model racing were Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace. These two were the epitome of late model racing. There also was Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy, Alan Kulwicki, Bob Senneker, and a few others that battled race after race. Best racing ever in my opinion.
