When you think of Rusty Wallace, Midnight is THE car. From 1992 to 1994, merely uttering the world “Midnight” in the NASCAR garage was enough to strike fear in the hearts of drivers and teams. During that span, Wallace and Midnight simply dominated the NASCAR circuit. Together, they captured an astonishing 13 wins (41.9%), 25 top-five finishes (80.6%) and 27 top-ten (87.1%) finishes in a 31-race span, as well as leading 3,918 of 12,001 possible laps (31.4%) during the period. The legendary Wallace was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2013. Upon his election, Wallace’s eldest son, Greg, headed an effort-with support from Penske Racing, MillerCoors and Ford Motor Company-to restore Midnight to its 1994 trim for Rusty’s NASCAR Hall of Fame exhibit. A conversion from Midnight’s 1998 Ford Taurus body, back to its 1994 Ford
Thunderbird skin and its iconic Miller Genuine Draft livery was thus undertaken by a group of former Penske Racing employees.
Afterward, Midnight rightfully appeared on static display at the NASCAR Hall of Fame-as the centerpiece of Wallace’s induction exhibit-before returning to his personal collection. The car has subsequently been returned to its 1994 “race-ready” condition. It features an authentic, period correct Ford “C3” engine, built on an actual Penske Racing block, producing approximately 750 horsepower.

Man, I sat in this car on April 4th 1993, tears in my eyes, celebrating Rusty's win and still devastated by Kulwicki's death. They were my favorite two drivers at the time, and when Alan left us, Rusty came out and won Bristol in his honor three days later. I was ten years old at the time and it wrecked me to lose my favorite driver. I'd met both of them numerous times growing up, and when we found Rusty in the pits, he was more than happy to let me sit in it, same as Alan had the year prior after his win. This car will always hold a very special meaning in my heart. Thank you for this video and for bringing back these memories.

I can't explain to you how amazing it was to be a kid/race fan in the 90's. These guys were all my heroes. Everything was so wild and amazing to see. I wish it still had that mystique now.

Miss those days of NASCAR. Rusty was my favorite driver. I was at my yearly aircraft maintenance recurrent training several years ago in Dallas and he was there for his pilot recurrent also. Such a surprise to meet him. I was in the break room having a coffee and I look up and he was standing right in front of me talking to his son on the phone. He was kind to shake my hand and he was just an aviator that week like the rest of us. Cool guy.

Favorite driver of all time, Rusty was such a great role model for me growing up and watching NASCAR from 91-99. Man, I miss the racing between him and Earnhardt, Gordon, the Labonte brothers, Martin, Rudd, Irvan, Allison, Kulwicki and others. The simple paint schemes, straightforward way of handling conflict like men, and the connection and appreciation of fans.

Tears of excitement in my eyes as many years ago I pitted for Joe Ruttman in USAC, Rusty was just starting out and his brother Kenny and I were sitting on the wall at a dirt track after running buckets of water back n fourth from the infield to cool the cars down. Neither Rusty nor Joe did very well, but I was a Rusty fan as he sat next to me and we both had dirty blonde afros and Joe said we looked like the bopsy twins lol. I won a lot of money thanks to Rusty and most of all so many great memories. And special thanks to Stapleton42, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. Thank you and PS. I would love to see Rusty put a lap down in any racecar lol

Who else watched until the end? I always enjoy the little bit extra that is there! Glad to see that car at the end and knowing she is doing work on her own project, it must be very rewarding for her! Keep up the great work.

Hopefully Rusty does read this and sees that I’m smiling even more than he was. Rusty Wallace was the driver that kept me watching every moment of NASCAR in the 90s. I never got to see Midnight in person, I only made it on your Last Call at the Brickyard. Thank you, thank you, thank you for returning the greatest of your cars to its greatest form. This made me smile so much.

I love listening to Rusty. If only we could hear some Dick Trickle stories. Rusty and Dick are legends here in Wisconsin short track land.

Man, I was introduced to Nascar around 1994 by my best friend in third grade named Mat, he is still my best buddy to this day and we both were big Jeff Gordon fans. We use to play Nascar 1 on PC wearing full motocross gear pretending to be our favorite driver, my brother was different than us and was a Rusty Wallace fan so I happen to have another favorite driver and it was Rusty Wallace. Memories this car triggers brought me to tears Bristol with Earnhardt turning him is the first one that comes to mind plus many more... Keep the history going this is awesome and its cool to see all my heroes as a kid..
