Old school, like gothic, sweet and classic, is an aesthetic. If it has the same vibe, then it's old school! I think the word people are looking for is 'vintage', as in from that specific era, but I've purchased old school inspired items in the past year, and they look straight from old snaps lol.

Yeah man I definitely agree it's it's own sub style with a particular vibe which newly released old school pieces do fit in to ☺️ like the coord I put together is undeniably old school while being made this year (minus the blouse) I wanted to mention the discourse around what some lolitas classify as "real" old school as there is differing opinions on it and I thought it was an interesting thing to discuss 🤔

A lot of old-school pieces aren’t wearable for plus size lolitas or even lolitas with large busts, so I’m definitely on the side of including modern pieces in the old-school aesthetic as long as they have the right lace, silhouette, etc.

THANK YOU! I've always thought the same thing. As a plus size lolita, I have trouble finding "authentic" old school pieces that fit. And I'm on the small side for plus size, I'm just naturally a chunky person lol. Saying you can't do old school if it's not from the era is really exclusionary.

I'm so happy that old school aesthetics are being made again! Personally I feel that there's a difference between "old school" the style and "old school" as in actually old, but there's nothing wrong with talking about both of them when using the term. This is a very cute haul that combines the best of both worlds in that regard! The way you altered that headdress was brilliant. Usually mine are a bit too small because I have a large head lol, but I will have to keep that tip tucked away just in case!

Personally I've taken a liking to term neo old-school for newer releases, it should help new people to the fashion distinguish actually old pieces and newer (often polyester) stuff. I'm not one to wear old school as is even though most on my dresses are from early 2000s, but proper cotton lace sets the "real deal" apart for me (I make lace so I have bit of an eye for it) 😊

Isn't it incredible how, despite only being around for 30 or so years, lolita fashion already has an "old school" substyle? Man, fashion moves fast... And I love that your hauls are always a full outfit! So cute, gives you a ton of pieces for versatility

i love rocking horse shoes, i just got a pair of actual wood rhs from btssb (secondhand but nwt), it's called victore (i think?) and I've been wearing it with nearly every coord hehe I'm considering getting another pair but it would probably be the bodyline ones but i am *fear* bc there's no ankle support and the btssb rhs are already hard to walk in bc the heel is a lot narrower at the back 🥲

IMO when I use the term old school I am referring to the style. Some people say you can only call something old school if the piece was made in the old school era, but a lot of people who say this (I've noticed) aren't very consistent with it themselves since they will call their outfits old school even if it contains shoes that were made recently. To have an entire outfit of pieces from the old school era is incredibly difficult since fake leather items (especially shoes) wear out pretty fast (peeling, cracking) and don't have an infinite shelf life even if you don't use them. They deteriorate with time and exposure to light, air, humidity, etc. It wasn't meant to last. The market for pieces from the era will also eventually dry up. Items get worn and will wear out eventually. We won't have enough pieces to go around. Using old school to only refer to items made in the era is a dead end imo. So it's a style to me. But I'm quite picky if it fits the style or not. If a piece has a noticeable modern flair to it I won't call it old school but rather old school inspired, which is fine but definitely different. Meta has been doing some of these pieces lately. Some chinese brands have been catering to the old school inspired trend as well. Great for people who want to dip their toe in or who just prefer old school inspired over old school style.

So pretty 💖 lol at the blouses and the double up on the socks, I wonder how that happened. I'll probably buy some of the socks when I want to do a taobao order, its hard to tell from the video but it looks like the white and black socks are crochet cotton lace and the black pair are nylon. Both are very nice though. The pearl strap is a really good idea. You're right the strap that comes with the kumyas is very thick. I wonder what jewellery what jewellery was worn back pre 2008 with lolita coords. I know there are a lot of street snaps with people holding bears (not always old school usakumyas) which I love.

I would say in general I've come to find that a lot of lolitas don't really care if you have off brand shoes or some people are even just wearing cute shoes not related to lolita because lolita isn't the only style they wear. Also I've been wanting rocking horse shoes for forever I didn't even know bodyline had them

Yes this is very much true in my experience! Chats I've had amongst some lolitas whom have been in the fashion quite a while seem to hold the opinion of shoes and bags being part of that grey zone for replicas as a lot of design elements are used interchangeably across many brands. Wearing non lolita shoes is definitely becoming less stigmatised as inclusiveness requires variation such as some lolitas wearing sneakers or different kinds of shoes

I'm unsure if the discourse has changed over the years, but there was a differentiation between design replicas and print replicas where design replicas were deemed acceptable whereas print replicas are more akin to art theft and therefore not acceptable.

ah yes the old rhs, I would one day love to try to make a pair for someone have a woodshop after all, but they might be real heavy, real wood they might look differant then the usual method of fastening the upper to the sole though, might look more gothic actually with round tacks, its getting the walking profile right though and a piece of wood big enough.

@@TCake13 well I reckon it will but finding a big enough piece of wood or finding a way to laminate them to make a platform is the hard part and the sizing, and sanding the bottom so it is not unstable and has a gentle curve is the hard part, cutting leather and tacking it on wont be too hard though prob need a last to use to space the front of it will prob look not unlike the way they make mary jane clogs of sorts, though prob heavy enough to crush a car as will be real wood, but I like to make stuff tough and overbuilt, now if someone would actually want to buy it once I made it.
