Take the tops off the jelly jars. You won’t know if the seal has gone bad if you have the rings on or have them stacked on top of each other. I learned to make jams and jellies at 71. Now I’m almost 73. (May 31)

I have started canning dry products like beans. In a grid down situation or lack of water situation, I don’t want to waste valuable water rehydrating and washing unnecessary things. I have all types of flavored black, pinto, navy beans and plain ones. I can up hamburger, bacon, sausages, soups, vegetables, roasts, ribs, cream of mushroom, heavy cream, roasted potatoes , pickled items, etc.. of course I keep oils, potatoes flakes, grits, freeze dried meats, paper products, candles, wicks, oil lamps, wind up clocks, etc. I love looking at other peoples pantries. Thanks for sharing. I made 2 bedrooms into prepper pantries because I don’t have a basement. ❤

Central Illinois here, FYI you can vaccuum seal your crackers in 1/2 gallon jars and they will stay good. Great job on your pantry glad you have your families support and contribute. I noticed the manual can opener sitting on the shelf in your pantry...Great! new subscriber.

Amazing little grocery store you have there. If SHTF don’t forget to take down the General Store sign. No sense advertising. I enjoyed your tour. Glad you we’re finally able to get your canned shrimp. During the pandemic I couldn’t find it at all and I was craving shrimp pasta salad. When it finally came back I couldn’t believe how expensive it was. It’s $3.89 a can here and I can get a whole bag of small frozen shrimp for $5.60.

CAUTION! It is best to avoid storing any of your cleaners or soaps with your other food storage. Crackers or cereal tasting like Dawn dish soap is nasty!!! Don’t ask me how I know. :-/ Meds also need a separate space, probably . . . Good work you’ve done!!

I do vacuum seal bag of sugar. A year later when you open it it’s like you just bought it. So yes vacuum seal it and I also put a small tear in the flour and sugar bags when I vacuum seal them

Thank you for the tip about the home shopping network carrying Auguson Farms. I'll definitely look into that! You have a great stockpile. I did not know they canned shrimp and crab. I am going to try to get some. Overall just a great video. I love your accent!

I put my sugar in jars, too. On my canned goods & packaged goods I mark the Best By date on the front so it’s easier to find. I got a Food Saver vacuum sealer a year ago and use it a lot, freezing meats. I use plastic shoeboxes for the gravy and seasoning packets.

Hi from upstate NY 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 Since white sugar never expires… get a jar or 2 of molasses and when needed you can make your own brown sugar whenever needed. Instant mashed potatoes last an extremely long time… I vacuum sealed all my instant stuffing, if you eliminate the boxes you save space. I just cut off the front and the back of the box and put it inside, just poke a tiny hole in the pouch. Non fat dry milk will last 20+ yrs once vacuum sealed in jars…

That's what I do. And have you noticed that the 'dark' brown sugar isn't dark anymore. They really skimp on the molasses since the pandemic. So making your own is the way to go. And I use molasses in a few recipes. :)

The cardboard salt containers allow moisture in the air to swell up the salt, empty into glass containers or vacuum seal, also ramen goes bad after awhile maybe 6 months -it gets a funky taste, but it should seal well too.

Thanks for sharing! We live near Indianapolis. We upped our prepping about 1.5yrs ago. I typically shop at Walmart once a week and I run to Aldis once every 6 weeks. I have a good amount of Auguson Farms and order other items on line. Its been quiet the journey. I started pressure canning this past summer and I love it. Mainly meat, potatoes, onions and mushrooms, carrots. My daughter gave me a vacuum sealer for xmas. Looking forward to trying it on crackers, etc. Great idea about the v8 juice. I have a couple, but I could use more. It never ends, but better safe than sorry!

Looks like you are well prepared. Awesome pantry. I mostly have canned goods in racks in my basement, and Thrive Life items I bought over the years. Watch the shelf life though - some items they have are only stable for 7 years (so they say on their website), but most is 20-25 years. My basement pantry is a living pantry, meaning when we use up what is in the kitchen, we Do Use what is in the basement, including the Thrive Life items (we love the freeze-dried spinach in scrambled eggs, for example). I have the egg mix from them and yes, very expensive, but it is also very good. I have egg whites open now - not as good as the egg mix though (better for baking). I also have a well and generator and there have been times I've been so thankful for both! I have been shopping Aldi quite a bit recently, but their prices are going up. Still, they are about 1/3-1/2 of other stores in my area (Southeastern PA). I've never seen the tiny shrimp in a can. I'll now be on the lookout for them. Lastly, warning - watch out for mice with boxed cookies and chocolate sitting around. They even like throat lozenges!!! Ask me how I know. lol

Great pantry tour. I dehydrated ground beef after watching Becoming a Farm Girl’s video and I love it! I’ve pressure canned it before but didn’t like the texture. I’ll probably use it like a meat sauce for spaghetti. I’m currently organizing my spare bedroom as my Prep room and I love seeing all my food storage. I have a lot of beef, chicken and pork canned as I want to make sure that I have a meat for my meals. Granted if we need to ration then it will be used sparingly and we’ll have non-meat meals often too. Blessings to you as you continue to provide for your family and grandchildren too!

They had some TP in office supply stores. Consider a bidet to dramatically reduce or if necessary, do without tp but still get clean. Seems strange at first but once you get used to it you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Howdy from East Texas! You popped up in my feed. Nice to meet you. Very nice pantry…and thank you for the info about the Home Shopping Network and Augason Farms products! One word of unsolicited advice: use an ABUNDANCE of caution with those plastic shelves and your glass jar foods. Those shelves bow under weight… and if you bump into them (like pulling out that tote on the bottom shelf)…you risk a collapse and broken jars! Ask me how I know 😳😬. Invest in a set of those metal shelves.

I used my food saver to vacuum seal flour bags and some of the bags loosened up. I don't see any holes. I can't figure out what the problem is. It's only been a week since I sealed them, now half are loose on one area. Have you experienced this?
@flowermage7299
@flowermage7299 Жыл бұрын
Hi, foodsaver bags are junk to me, I have googled the failure rate and in other online posts and my experience its about 25%. The best bags I have found are from Avid Armor, they are a thicker, larger better quality, and a lot less expensive that FS bags. 2ed. flour can bleed into the area of the bags being sealed. Powders need to be placed inside a bag, then placed in the VS bag. I learned this from other YT vid's. The brown school lunch bags work just great, and can be purchased almost anywhere.
@KoalaKrafts

@@flowermage7299 thank you! I'll look into those bags you recommended.

Place your flour in a brown lunch bag (got mine at Dollar Tree) and I place 4 cups in each. Cut the top of bag so you have enough to just fold down over the top of flour and place a strip of tape to hold down. Do not roll the excess bag as the oxygen won’t be able to be extracted. Placing in lunch bag prevents the flour from being pulled out and dusting your food saver bag that won’t get a good seal. When done this way it becomes like a brick.

The bags could be too thick that your vacuum ceiling.I put flour in 2 to 3 cup portions in paper bags and then vacuum seal them and I haven't had any problems.I usually do it with 2 cups in each bag. Because that's what the standard cookie recipe calls for.

I love your pantry.... I tried for months to find tiny shrimp and when I did I got like half a dozen. I will be starting to buy more every time I go to the store. I really need to food saver much more than I do. I started stock-piling the toilet paper back in 2020 also when we had the shortages. How long does the Auguson Farms last once they are opened?

Most of the cans say 1 to 2years after their opened...but I'm sure they would last longer... You could also vacuum seal the contents of the can in a mason jar ... that would extend its life additionally

I've read that they last for a couple years but if you keep checking them. I'm sure they will go far beyond that.. They are great when when you have chicken broth or beef broth in the crock pot. And you just throw a couple handfuls of those in and you have a great soup base.

🤣Why have so many toothpaste tubes? I might go through 2 in a year with 2 people. You have like 5 year supply of toothpaste. If you can not buy toothpaste for 5 years in the USA, then that means so many people are dead. 6 month to a year supply should be max for prepping. Anything after that is classified as hoarding.
