The G60, was called the Jonga in India, named after the factory where it was built, meant only for the Indian Army, it was a beast, so many memories and good time we had with these super strong G 60, JONGA was the acronym for Jabalpur Ordnance and Gun Carriage Assembly, vehicle factory at Jabalpur. Good to see one being restored, Kudos

It was a trip down memory lane to see an old G60, I got my first G60 in 1972. I was 18 years old. In 1975 we headed for Cape York with it WHAT a trip. You are dead right about the brakes we towed an 18 ft caravan all over the top end lucky we put PDR brakes on it as we relied on the van to pull up it and the G60.

This Patrol is actually a very Eco friendly and sustainable car, than many modern EV car. Working after 47 years, it's not in reach to many modern cars. Carbon Footprint with life cycle expectancy should be taken into consideration.

WOW What a trip down memory lane. A 1977 SWB soft top Patrol was my first 4WD. I bought in new for just under $6k, I wanted a SWB Toyota but there was six month wait and I wasn't waiting. I then spent another $5k on accessories, Roll bar, full external bar work including truck like winch bar, biggest and best Warn winch of the day, 2 huge spotlights, 2x 100lt Aux fuel tanks, Recaro seats, overhead console with Pioneer sound system with biggest amp of the day and a CB. I wanted to be the first to traverse the Canning stock route in a modern day 4WD. That never happened but in the 12 years of ownership I had so many adventures with the Green Brick, I have too many tales of getting stuck, roll overs, breakdowns and bush mechanic repairs to tell here. Thank you for this video and bringing those old memories to mind.

Drove across the Jardine in a G60 back in 1979.. No barge then. Learned my trade on these old Nissan's, run them for years. Only recently dropped a ute load of spare parts at the tip, nobody wants them any more and taking up shed space. Keep an eagle eye on the two short spring studs in the diff housing, driver side. The are known to strip and pull out of the casting on heavy bumps!

Loved my old G60, they are an absolute beast, I fitted MQ-MK front and rear diffs into mine, they pretty much bolt straight in, only need to machine centre of both driveshafts to fit the MQ-MK Flanges, re-drill the 4 bolt holes, then u have front disc brakes, I also had a rear LSD centre, made the old G60 even better. Do Gunshot, low range 1st gear and the old beast will just crawl down, no brakes needed, lol. It's a shame I didn't know u needed parts a few weeks back, a mate of mine sold 7 G60's(couple of good runners and rest just suitable for parts), plenty of spares.

Hell yeah I would drive it. I got a 79 jeep cj5 in just a bit better condition but I used to daily that thing every day for years. I have drove it through creeks, mud and snow. Across the US and it always gets me to my location granted at a slow speed as its a 3 speed. Only time I was driving faster then everyone else was going through a 3 day blizzerd through New Mexico and Arizona. No matter how rattly and noisy, or if its smoking me out be cause the valve cover gaskit gave way and is spilling oil all over the manifold, I will never git rid of it.

Mate, you haven’t drive an old 4WD until you drive old Jeep Willys (3speed) or Russian GAZ. Jeep, as you know, goes back to the 30’s and the GAZ originally a bad copy of Jeep goes back to the 40’s. All the instruments you mentioned were in those vehicles. BDW high been switch on the floor was a common standard untill around 50’s. My first car in Australia was Holden HR 3 speed column shift 1967. No power steering, no fan, no issues. Yes, drum brakes all around. Got me from Melbourne to Perth no worries. The most important for me was that the car cost me $295.00 plus stamp duty $15.00. Yeah, long time ago.

Hi guys love your videos from nz... I am originally from Fiji. Back home we had a vehicle which was an absolute bullet we used to say in rural areas. I have been to Australia multiple times but haven't seen it there, here in nz it's not that common as well have seen just a handful. It's make is Daihatsu and back home in fiji it's badged and named Daihatsu Rocky, in nz it's Rugger. We knew it as Rocky, It was a bulletproof 4wd for us back home in fiji, no matter the road or river crossing without snorkels lol. Being in the islands the roads are rough and that vehicle never let us down. Very simple engine to work on with a after market sounds it's was sweet azz rough ride. Would love to see a video of a Rocky if you guys can find one. Cheers

dont put a new tray on it please! sick of seeing all the new trays, I feeling doing a resto on the old hard wood would look mint and be unique.

Loved the video. I had a 43 and a 50 Jeep Willys. Yours is pretty darn flashy compared to those two😂 The 43 came in the original WWII color and star…and bullet holes! I would have taken that little monster down gunshot. Need a snorkel of sorts though! Lol

Mq disk brake conversion...pathfinder brake booster upgrade= decent braking power... Mq parabolic leaf packs will fit up front and make the front end a heck of a lot nicer than the original packs...almost coil like compared to stock. Rears can be made with the top 2 normal leafs and most of a 75 series or gq leafy rear pack.... No you cant have my g banger badges As for gunshot, chuck her in 1st low, ease her in and switch her off. Let the compression be your braking hahaha. Triple pump the brakes first tho. Hang on and good luck

My dad had one, a 72 two wiper rag top MWB, I adored it. I drove my 77 MWB hardtop 23.000km up the booraloola track and to uluru. I adore G60's. The P series engine is so torquey you only need 2 gears when you are moving, I could cruise at 95kph with ear plugs and use the hand throttle as cruise control. You could start my dads with a 5c coin! my drivers door latch kept rattling loose on the corrugations in the NT, so I also had an ockey strap on the door but that was to hold it shut! Full of character, do you have the crank handle?

I'd do Gunshot, Graham. Can't beat old trucks. The first car i drove HT Monaro had the highbeam switch on the floor.
