I remember when my dad replaced our IBM PC Clone with a 286 and he told us this computer would be powerful enough to last a decade. We replaced it within 3 years because it was already too slow.

I seldom comment on videos, if at all, but I've got to say that I love your channel Neil, and this museum looks absolutely fantastic, I'm going to have to take the long drive up from Cornwall one day to pay it a visit. My first machine was a CPC464 and was my childhood in the 80's. Fantastic times and great nostalgia. Wishing you all the best, from a humble Cornishman! Wow what a great place!! What a lovely guy. Thanks for showing us Neil. My 1st computer was a ZX81 but the BBC holds a special place for me. I still remember like it was yesterday, my primary school getting computers. BBCbs... I distinctly remember it was November 1983, Karma Chameleon was no1 and it was near bonfire night... :)

Nice to see the old micro computers in action. In the Netherlands my first is the C64 Breadbin 250425 from 1984. Got it now and it still working and it’s still in mint state. Learn on school in the eighties with a Acorn BBC Micro and on the IBM PC 5150. Now i got a VIC 20, C64C Breadbin 250425 RevA, C64C 250466, C64 Reloaded MK2, AMIGA 500 Rev6A and a AMIGA 1200 Rev1D.4. Had alot of consoles but sell it and have only my proud Neo Geo AES.

That 12 inch Ferguson black and white TV with the sign ' do not touch tuning knob'. Brought back memories of the early 90's as a teenager. My Ferguson TV used to drift if you touched the tuning know - hell to get back to channel 36 for my c64.

I visited the museum today and met the couple that run it, the place was so interesting and the couple were lovely, such passion and love for this collection. Spent about 3 hours there, looking around and then playing old games in their games room. This place is a real gem and definately worth a trip. Highly recommended for anyone with a bit of retro hardware interest.

Wow, a Research Machines 380Z. That was the first ever computer i used. either in 1982 or 83. My school didnt have any spare disks to use. So i would sit there any type in "Mars Lander" almost every lunchtime, which resulted in only about 15 to 20mins of playtime before we had to turn it off !.

Spectravideo was rather popular in finland for some odd reason. We had some hobbyist clubs doing software for it too in addition to imported ones. and it did help that with an adapter it could run konami MSX games. There were several models and plenty of gadgets for it ranging from a drawing board to a docking station. That dock was quite ludicrous in size as the whole not-so-small specravideo was slotted inside it and the dock also had floppy drives on the side to make it even wider.

A very impressive collection, although you didn't show either a TI99/4A or MSX which were my second and third computers after a ZX81.We had the Research Machines 380Zs at college. I once got one for free. A friend was selling it at an Amateur Radio Rally. Someone paid the asking price of about £10, picked up all the floppy discs that came with it. and started to walk off. When my friend asked if he was taking the computer it was "No. I only want the discs" At work a Nascom II was used for doing all the pre flight checks of the ISPM (Ulysses) research satellites navigation system. As the launched got delayed until 1990 due to Challenger, it must have seemed antiquated when they used it then.I am still trying to place another computer they bought at work to evaluate back in July 1981 (I can date it from a famous wedding). It was colour (which was why they bought it) and I am sure it had cartridges which were actually an 8 Track cartridge modified to take a PCB inside. When it turned up someone was sent to Dixons to get a portable colour TV to use as a monitor. We then had a succession of visitors from around site to see the latest acquisition. Most were "Wow a Colour Computer. What will they think of next?" but a few were "Wow a portable colour TV. What will they think of next?"

Awesome video thanks for sharing. My first PC was the Aquarius computer which I saw in the vid. I used to program turtle basic on that thing with the 4K expansion cartridge and the recorder to save my programs. I still have one I picked up a few years back from a thrift store. Thanks for the memories:)

I remember there was a computer shop in my home town where in the back room they had lots of the 8bit micros of the time setup and running for people to try which included the Memotech 512 and the Camputers Lynx. They seemed like such exotic computers at the time, especially that very classy brushed aluminium case on the Memotech and its lovely keyboard. Watching this reminded me of the time I spent in there trying them out.

Wow, amazing!! Great seeing the CPC6128, a lot of love for the 464 but not so much the 6128. My friends all had 464s, I was always the loner with a 'fancy disk drive'. Loved that machine though, my first real foree into computing, so glad my folks chose it over the NES I kept pestering them for :)

With ubiquitous smartphones, tablets and laptops it's easy to forget how far we've come in such a short time!

Wonderful to see the Nascom 1. I remember when, after a lot of asking, I was given one for Christmas. The first OS I used was T2 then eventually upgraded to T4. I always used to get annoyed on a Saturday morning when I was typing in a program, mum would start up the vacuum cleaner downstairs and an hours worth of typing would be down the drain.

5:25 is that a collection of Grandstand / Epoch mini console games? I had "Astro Wars" and "Dracula" as a kid and in this quick pan I'm sure I can see them! What an amazing place to visit! EDIT: 20:13 definitely shows Astro Wars but what I thought was Dracula is something else... in any case... HUGE nostalgia for me in these shots! P.S. my progression was Atari 400 / 600XL / 130XE then onto ST before getting into the PC world... BUT... like the owner of this museum I "cut my teeth" on a BBC model B at a week long computer camp which I attended at the age of about 11...

Thank you so very much for making this video. I love that museums like this exist, and gosh, I saw so much that I have not seen since the 80s and early 90s. I have to admit to feeling a little jealous that such places are so local to you, when I know of nothing like this in Australia, or even the southern hemisphere, so I have to travel half a world away to get to experience places like this. Fantastic virtual tour of rare home computers, thank you so much. I still own a Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2, Amstrad CPC, Atari 2600, Super Nintendo, (my Gameboy went missing unfortunately), Xbox original. I've not invested in VR, but since the Rift 2 release and how good VR is starting to look, that'll be my next foray into computer gaming.

Damn - didn't think I'll see a Video Genie I again - learnt to program on that late 1980 at my middle school; it was owned by the maths teacher at the time and he brought the machine to school so we could see what we could do with it. Saved up my pocket money and bought a ZX-81 a year later. As for the RM 480Z - had a few of those at the high school networked to a 380Z. However, most of the 480Z's we had were the black ones in metal cases, not the plastic cased one shown. Good stuff!

I've been there and found it really awesome. Very nice staff there too, only a 10 minute drive from my house and the kids really enjoyed it as well. It looks quiet small from the road side but goes right back into a huge room filled with retro goodies, great day out lots of stuff to suit your need from 8bit micros to Dreamcast, GameCube, and loads of 80s handhelds and tabletop games by grandslam like scrambler an astrowars even have a working vectrex. Well worth checking out if in south east of England 70s an 80s kids will love it for the nostalgia trip.

That Coupé looks to be in better shape than mine! Oh, and BTW, it’s not a clone of the spectrum, it’s a far more capable beast with a few things designed to be spectrum compatible. Certainly the display was more flexible. I think it deserved sprites though.

380Z and 480Z were the first computers I used with disk drives circa 1984. Seem to recall the 480Z was used a lot in networks... was amazing to access other people's drives...

I have a boxed Sam Coupe given to me from when I worked for Sinclair User. I'm also a volunteer at the museum but couldn't make it that day. I specialise in Sir Clive Sinclair's electric assisted vehicles. You should see what Mike and Carol have stored away, that's another couple of museums worth.

What a awesome place! I had to keep pausing to see all the systems in the background. If I ever find myself in Ramsgate I'll be sure to check it out. @4.26 that Sega Saturn racing wheel is meant to be sat on, literally! It fits under your thighs with the wheel inbetween your legs for a solid driving experience. Great vid :)

SpectraVideo’s 8-bit machine, with that red joystick built in,, should be better known. The original MSX machine was a clone of the SpectraVideo.
