Huge Smartphone News Just Made Garmin InReach Obsolete

The new iphone update just made Garmin InReach mostly obsolete, and android will be following suit very soon. Satellite texting is now here, but that doesn't mean you don't need backup GPS tools from garmin. Here is what I recommend:

I travel to very remote places to fly fish. I use my Garmin with the trail map card and Maprika on my Samsung phone. I like having a backup when traveling in the middle of nowhere. I like the Garmin as it takes AA batteries as does my LED flashlight.

you should try the garmin watches. All the same features and way better battery life.

A Garmin still is sturdier (shock, waterproof and handy format) and got way better battery longevity.

Battery is a 100 hrs unless out innthe wide open on inreach. To give you perspective I did a 5 day canoe trip on one iPhone charge in airplane mode. So they are similar. Add a juggernaut phone case and your phone ain't breaking. I prefer their watches. Battery life of over a month and can't lose it

Good case, battery bank, and phone in a battery save mode, and you're still well under the price of a garmin and that's not including the exorbitant monthly subscription fee the GPS companies charge. Nitecore has a lightweight cf battery bank, battery saver mode downclocks your phones refresh speed and processing power (which you don't need for simple gps) and a rugged case from UAE or similar for protection. These negate all your pros for the garmin. Everyone takes a phone on the trail and even me being a staunch android fan, I'm starting to appeal to apples features for the outdoorsman.

@@stevelucier8346 yet it seems to be a golden model for for so many other countries 😂 I’m original from Australia and let’s just say 30 years ago it was way better then it is today and I I think they forgot what they get elected for / the people not the corporations. Easier here in Japan where the language barrier protects me for understanding it all 😂 ah the ignorance can be blissful 😂

the in reach still works where your phone doesn't and doesn't run it's battery down sending in constant spy reports.

With the iPhone you will have to point it at a moving satellite which may be challenging in certain terrain. The Garmin Inreach can also do SOS direct from the device and allows position tracking and receiving incoming messages without having to point it at a satellite to “connect”. The addition of SMS via Satellite is a good move forward but I will still rely on the Garmin for serious backcountry use.

That’s cool…anything somebody can use from there phone is a definite must have for people today …I’m trying to get a 15 pro or pro max so I’ll DEFINATELY be doing that…all we need now is long range drones and we can get pizza delivery in the middle of a state Forrest
