I could hear machinery running as the elevator descended with the dead on leveling on each landing, for a massive sized elevator likely is traction. However with a very large geared machine and driven sheave, 2:1 or larger roping under-slug. Possibly a second ( independent) counterweight. If hydraulic, would need more than one ram and jack + power unit. It's bigger than the fright elevator in the dept store I remember when I was a kid.

It's a traction. I did ask to visit the machine room but the janitor couldn't show me.

Tallest freight elevator on You tube for sure.......It's basically a moving gymnasium in a shaft.....you could play basket ball in it...... Gigantic door......and the smaller door on the third level looks so out of place......The largest type of elevator......Dumbwaiter is the smallest
