It did a lot of other things relating to how content is treated but in terms of pricing, it didn't do much of anything except largely preventing throttling and it prevented paid prioritization. maybe that's a testament to the fact that a lot of us having access to communication with (seemingly) no consequence from a young age is extremely harmful. Part of living life is learning how to properly socialize and learning the importance of shame as a tool to learn and grow- the internet has taken that away and with many people spending the majority of their day- the majority of their lives, even,- on the internet, we find that the consequences of that are dire to an extent we could never have imagined in the internets creation.

The internet is no longer a tool for entertainment, it's no longer used to find interesting blogs or pass the time watching silly cat videos- it's become yet another vice on the growing list of vices that almost everyone seems to fall prey to nowadays. It's radicalized people in ways we could never have imagined and nobody else seems to find it harmful, but as time goes on it seems that the internet only harms. It's a means of escaping life in every conceivable way and it feeds into people's delusions and creates massive echo chambers that nobody can seem to break free from. Ever since I limited my social media presence and internet access in general, I have been a much happier person and I've grown immensely in the past few years. If you're reading this far down I implore you do the same thing because it's only going to get worse from here. It takes discipline and boredom takes getting used to, but trust me when I say the changes you will see in your life will be undeniable.

I honestly believe there are way more people online that engage as human beings than the big tech companies show. It feels like like the algorithm that "makes you want to stay on the platform" got turned up to 9000 and the part that made it even slightly enjoyable got turned off. From my experience, part of it is the power of TikTok's algorithm being aggressive and other platforms either changing their algorithm to keep up or the behaviors of users shifting to a TikTok mindset. As someone living in South Korea, I cared a heck of a lot more about the twitch shutdown than the dumb Hasan drama. Thanks for talking about it bc it really sucks that the western community seems to not care at all, especially in our globalised world. If you’re a League content creator for example, this is probably gonna hit you harder than you realise… Edit: since people seem to be misunderstanding me, my point is that for an online community that seems to open up conversation any time Twitch or Kick or KZbin make any kind of minuscule change, a total shutdown in a country that makes up a large portion of its user base probably should garner more attention. And it’s not twitch’s fault. They made the correct choice. South Korea has about a million problems far more serious (“Hell Joseon” after all) but this is a topic that’s interesting and important as the scope of online entertainment continues to grow. I think the biggest problem is that other jobs that “suck the soul” barely pay enough to live. I’m a bartender and work about 60 hours a week. Most of those days 11-14 hrs on my feet and having to talk and smile to people. Similar to streaming + foot pain. But I’m lucky to get $50k a year which Hasan probably makes close to in a month. I get Hassan’s sentiment and think he’s right about it not being as easy as people think and most people online just want likes or hate his politics but it never feels great to hear a millionaire tell you how hard their job is.
