I can't get enough of heavy equipment construction vehicles. I'm 31 years old and have loved them since I was a kid. Never driven anything but a regular truck. I greatly admire the engineering put in the design of construction equipment - the physics to balance and lift loads, the placement of hydraulics, and of course all of the numerous unlabeled black levers that control them!

That shovel operator is smooth as silk. The mechanics really appreciate operators like this. A little grease and a tank of fuel is all they need eh. Most of these machines have automatic grease systems. As a mechanic I saw over greasing a real pain to deal with. Having to dig in a load of dust fouled grease before getting to a service point. Coveralls covered with grease gets all over places. Esp the seat of my service truck. GRRRRR ! I could watch this all day long.

I've not been around front shovel machines much, but do love to watch the videos of them. They seem to operate much more slowly than backhoe machines, but they do seem to get massive amounts of overburden moved. Of course, that depends upon the proficiency of the operator ..... and this operator seems to know how it's done. These guys are amazing to watch. Thnx, MMC for yet another great video. Much appreciated, from Ohio, USA! P.S.: This old machine has obviously been around for awhile .... She still seems up to the task tho!

You can't judge it by the outside. A bit of dirt doesn't hurt anything, it even protects the body from rust. You can go crazy about cleaning the outside but the machine doesn't care. As long as the bearings are greased and the engine is taken care of, all is well.

@alco4245 жыл бұрын
The RH170 became the Cat 6040, so the specs should be pretty close to the same. An older machine will typically have a lower capacity, and the different applications will give you different bucket sizes due to differing densities of the material being mined. But to give you a rough idea, the RH170 would be rated for around 44 tons per pass and around 28 cubic yards. Hope this helps somewhat.
