Thank you so much. I bought this press to replace an old delta varispeed 12". Man this thing is big! My bench is 32" high and this press was to high to use comfortably. So I built a rolling stand with 3 drawers 20" inches tall not counting the casters under it and this is just Perfect. Just like this video. I will say that you need help to move this thing as it is super heavy and I mean HEAVY! And very awkward to handle. A person could easily hurt themselves. So if you buy one of these beware and ask for HELP! This is the nicest tool now in my shop next to the jet table saw. I love the chuck. Never have I seen a press with this nice of a chuck. Thank you again Seth!!

They packed a lot of cool features into that machine. I particularly liked the depth adjustments and stops. And the lasers. That spindle lock for the sanding drum was a nice surprise. I clamped up something special when I needed that feature on my vintage drill press. Another nice edit, Seth!

Thanks for this great video, Seth! I just set up the Jet 15"" floor model and your video was invaluable in helping me figure out how to do it. The included instructions are passable, but there's nothing like seeing it done. The Jet website is no help and all of the other videos on KZbin are just reviews. I've had nothing but issues from a grizzly industrial product. My wife and I drove over 5 hours, and spent over $1200 at the Grizzly showroom in Missouri. Honestly the showroom is amazing. The product I got...not so much. I've had over 10 separate issues including defective, and back ordered parts sent to me. Grizzly did offer me $100 to keep the pos 😂😂😂. I like high quality tools, and won't hesitate to spend the money on them. Powermatic, Jet, SCM, felder, festool, saw stop etc. I like decent hand tools such as snap on, Milwaukee, dewalt, and I even think husky is decent due to being able to swap tools easily when they break one the job. We even have some harbor freight tools that I think are very very good. My experience with grizzly has been unsatisfactory at best. Not to mention they will not post my review on their actual website. Hopefully my review will help someone looking for equipment.

Like the others, I appreciate the video. You cover all the aspects that prospective buyers are looking for and can't find online at stores, or the Jet site. I'm just trying to decide if I want to spend the extra $90 for the floor model. I commented further down the page about you moving the head sideways to deal with long stock. Does the column have anything to align the head back straight, or do you have to eyeball it?

Hi nice thorough video. Question please. What is that knocking sound when you initially turned it on? I had a little older JET floor model that sounded smooth as glass. If you aren't sure what I am talking about review your video and listen for yourself. Thanks once again
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 2 жыл бұрын
that sound was simply the machine running at a very slow speed which is how it came from the factory. I'll admit I was surprised at first...i thought the sound would be more of a wow-factor when i turned it on for the very first time, but i didn't realize it was just pre-set to a very low speed. Everything is normal though and I still love it! 👍🏻

yeah for sure. i've used it for a lot of metal drilling. I think you just need to be mindful of the bit you're using (i use cobalt bits for drilling metal) and make sure your speed is set properly. There's a chart printed on the inside of the lid 👍🏻

Question. Can the main motor unit rotate on the column by loosening some fastener if needed?
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! As a matter of fact it can. There's a pair of set screws on the side that keep the head unit in place on the column. If you need to swivel the head for any reason you can just loosen those. I have the drill press mounted at the end of my bench and recently i needed to drill holes in the end of the workpiece, but the workpiece was too long. So i swiveled the head and the table to the side, and also tilted the table 90 degrees. Now I was able to secure my longer workpiece to drill the holes i needed. If i can find a pic, i'll post it here on youtube to my "posts". 👍🏻

What is a good height for a movable cart for the Jet 15B ?
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 2 жыл бұрын
unfortunately i don't know because it might be different for different people. You'd have to determine your comfortable working height of the drill press, then build the cart according to your needs. I just built a new miter station and repositioned my drill press on a shorter base...i'm hoping to put up a video soon showing more details of that project and i'll go into more detail about the dimensions in that video! 👍🏻

What are your thoughts on the sound it made? Are there any rattling sounds or any 'thud-thud-thud' resonating type of sounds? I ask as I bought a cheap Grizzly that sounds like a freight train and am thinking of returning it and spending a bit more on a quality machine. Cheers.
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 3 жыл бұрын
nah, no weird sounds. when i turned it on for the first time in the video that was actually the very very first time i ever turned it on and to be honest i thought it would sound a little more powerful but then i realized it comes from the factory configured at a slow speed. I've used it a lot now and everything sounds like a nice strong machine 👍🏻

I think the only decision for me now is do I get the floor or bench unit. I'm 5'9" and realizing that if I get a floor model, my viewpoint to the table at max height is fixed. If I get a bench model, it can be what I want it to be, as long as I build a table for it, or buy a table. I'm wondering if you (Seth) or anyone else has found the bench version to be better for that reason. I'm not concerned about floor space. But if I buy a bench model, I have to figure out a cabinet solution.
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 3 жыл бұрын
I'm 5'10" and my current location of the drill press is too high. That's because the only place i could put it was in my miter station which i designed and built very poorly several years ago. I am currently redesigning my miter station this very moment. Instead of mounting the drill press on the miter station again i think i'm going to build a separate mobile cabinet for the drill press so it's at a more appropriate height. The drill press cabinet might be a little narrow so i can rotate the head to drill longer pieces if necessary and I think i'll also weight the bottom of the cabinet (weights or concrete) since the drill press is fairly top heavy.
@mattspangler7358
@mattspangler7358 3 жыл бұрын
@@stuffsethmakes Good points to consider ... out of curiousity, how high do you want the chuck to be when you are done? I'm looking online to find any guidance as to the optimum position. Since this model is bigger than most of the other DPs on the market in that price range, it's rather unique. In a good way.
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 3 жыл бұрын
i don't know if there's a recommended height or if it's just based on personal preference but i just went out and measured some things. Currently my green power button is about 70" from the floor, which is right in the middle of my forehead. As i stand there and look at it, i think i'd like it be more around the 64-65" mark. Not sure if this is helpful for you or not but those are my thoughts, haha!
@mattspangler7358
@mattspangler7358 3 жыл бұрын
@@stuffsethmakes I can see how that ~65" mark is ideal. With the floor model at 63-1/4" high, that places the button down about 59+ inches? That could work even better if I fabricate a thick steel plate about twice as wide, and drill/tap holes for hd wheels .... but if I build a cabinet, I need to deal with added weight (as you mentioned in another post), and making it wide enough for stability with most of the weight in the head of the dp, right? I'm guessing the cabinet should be about 25-26 inches tall? Sorry for all the questions, but this is a big expense for me and now that I know the JDP-15 is for me, it's a matter of "F" or "B" ... Thanks!
@stuffsethmakes
@stuffsethmakes 3 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine the floor model would probably be more or appropriate height right out of the box. Since i'm not at the drill press cabinet stage of my miter station rebuild just yet, i can't say yay or nay to the dimension you mentioned but it sounds like you've got a pretty good grasp on what you'd need to build for either drill press! 👍🏻

E. Ramirez haven't drilled through any metal that thick yet...only some 1/8" thick flat bar using a 1.25" bi-metal hole saw. A couple drops of cutting oil and it was smooth and effortless, but based on that i'd imagine 1/4" would be no problem either.
