Do you have a recommended website or app to predict the size of the surf there at shore acres? Been looking to take photographs there for a while. Thanks.

First, this kind of event happens only a few times a year. Often less than 10 times and rarely during a King Tide! Second, there is a website that gives one a "heads up." And, it is surf-forecast. com. The site tracks surf conditions all around the world. To get a tip on Shore Acres, enter Oregon South and for the beach, enter Bastendorff. Look for wave heights of 18' or higher for the big explosions. The site tracks surf conditions several days out. Often the estimates change dramatically as the date gets closer. Also, pay attention to High Surf warnings which are usually issued 48 hours before the event.

What kind of waterproofing do you recommend for camera equipment while visiting this site?
@Seracdog11 ай бұрын
Wow, you just happened to catch as I was getting ready to jump in bed! Excellent question, but nowadays I am the wrong guy to ask! Reason, I have lost several cameras over the years to water. I am very careful but I get excited which leads to carelessness! So, unless, it is a sunny day (rarely) with no rain and wind, my Canon stays in my bag! In addition at Shore Acres, I personally prefer to see & hear the whole action, thus I now shoot mostly video using... an iPhone 15 ProMax, 4K, at 60 fps. It's not totally waterproof, but damn close! So, for how to keep your camera (DSLR) dry at Shore Acres I suggest contacting Steven Michael. He has been photographing the waves at Shore Acres longer than anyone else on planet and has some dropdead gorgeous shots! He has encountered every type of inclement weather conditions up and down the Oregon Coast. Here is his Facebook site facebook.com/StevenMichaelPhotographyOregon/

Thank you. It might be awhile before I get down there. However, at least I'm in the know. Cheers.
