Mother Nature will always rule the Earth. Mankind is just a speck of sand in her world.

Hey Al? What can you tell us about the road washout - are we sunk for the season?
@Seracdog3 күн бұрын
I just happened to be at my computer when your comment popped. I asked Steven Michael (Mr. Shore Acres... he has the best shots and lives about 10 minutes from SA) this morning...he has no clue when the road will be passable. One can still walk from Sunset Bay to SA...
@bob_frazier3 күн бұрын
@Seracdog I'm pretty sure you have the best shots Al! Thanks for the reply.
@Seracdog3 күн бұрын
Thank you again, but honestly Steven has thousands of jaw dropping stills taken over a 15+ year span. Plus, I kind of consider him my SA mentor!

It's a good thing that you got this footage when you did, this last week's torrential rains have washed away part of the road to get to Shore Acres, I've never seen that in my 70 years here. The wave at 3:33 is well over 120 feet tall.

Al, I saw what you typed in the video, but in the future you might want to think about doing this w/ drones from now on. You never can tell when a mammoth wave will get over the "safe zone".
@Seracdog9 күн бұрын
Good suggestion however, it is often quite windy making flying a drone very risky. In addition, flying drone in a state park is frowned upon!

Mother Nature is at its best. What a great video. Thanks for sharing. Some of those that got very close need to use more common sense. One bad wave or rush of water and your life is over. Glad no one was hurt or injured. Happy new years to all. Have a happy and healthy one.

Amen! When you consider that a fire hose can generally only shoot water 100' into the air. Waves explosions ar Shore Acres throwing tons of water in the air often reach heights well in excess of 200'

Good stuff! Thank you for sharing this. My sister and I want to plan a trip and come see this event, can you tell me is this location ADA? I cant seem to find much info on the access from parking to viewing area(s). Like, how far/hard of a walk on what sort of terrain is it to reach.
@Seracdog10 күн бұрын
ADA... YES! From the parking area to the main viewing area it is about 50 yards... fairly level. The event only happens a few times 3-12) a year between the months of October and March. Look for a High Surf warning issued by NOAA for Coos Bay...

To be honest, the events at Shore Acres have become the gold standard for spectacular wave watching along the Pacific Coast
@Michael-um5pd11 күн бұрын
Seems like there must be some underlying causes for the oceans to be so rough, I lived on the Oregon coast for years and never saw anything like this, it seems to be happening up and down the west coast this year.
@Seracdog11 күн бұрын
The situation at Shore Acres is very unique! It is the way the ocean bottom has eroded away of the years that allows for the big explosions to occur.
