We have that problem in salt water too. I hate seeing people spend 10 minutes with a giant tarpon just for a monologue.

They keep a lot of fish out of the water longer than I would generally do, but still short enough for pretty high survival rates. I also know it's a lot harder to get clean releases off a boat, but I try to keep fish out of the water for 3 seconds max.

My favorite YT fly fishing vid of all time. So, we are from Wisconsin and in March of '21 we took a tandem kayak down the Colorado through Horseshoe Bend to Lee's Ferry, might have been your boat rental ? I've never seen so many trout and waterfowl in my life! I'm 66 and that week I knocked 2 off the bucket list, Angel's Landing and 2 days later down the Colorado. As I ran back to our vehicle to put the paid sticker on the dash I fell and broke my left toe and pulled my right hamstring! But, the boat wasn't leavin' without me. Love that area.
