Hugely musical ZF gearbox - Arriva Southend DAF SB200 3911 (T911 KKM) ride - part 3

Join me aboard an extremely 'musical' DAF SB220/Plaxton Prestige of Arriva Southend on service 1 between Southend Travel Centre and Thundersley, Kenneth Road.
The gearbox notes in first gear of 3911 (T911 KKM) are exceptionally enjoyable, with even neutral having a tuneful sound to it. A very enjoyable musical cacophony, rare on modern buses.
In Part 3, we travel from London Road in central Southend with many stops and starts to Chalkwell Park, enjoying some superb gearbox tones, exceptionally rich on this bus. We are also leap-frogging with sister bus 3912 (T912 KKM) owing to delays through a major RTA in town.

That's a truly well maintained SB220, I absolutely love how even with every seat taken and a load of standing passengers the gearbox isn't even phased at all, it accelerates off like it's empty, fantastic, if that was a Dennis Dart that thing would barely be moving with a full load

this is such a nice sound! i am bus driver in the netherlands for an coach company. we've got some city busses to, some older ones, and newer ones. one of our IVECO Irisbus Crossway's gots this sound to, LOVE IT :)

I think 3911 is the most musical in the whole fleet, 3916 has been preserved by the South East Preservation Group And I have seen her a few times this year.

Is there any maximum lifespan limit for these public buses set by your local bus or traffic agency/authority? We have DAFs here too, but about to be scrapped end of the year when they reach 17 years - the limit for our buses here.

That’s an average life yes. No specific life for Arriva buses in Southend.

This is when Southend had good buses! Prestige’s, Dennis darts, Marshall Capitals. Now we have odd Versa things and horrible streetlites.
