Lost interest in Hugh and the Stranglers when he left the band. But I now feel (2017 ) that I have done both an injustice by not following their separate paths! Used to have the album "Nosferatu," the result of Hugh's collaboration with Robert Williams and loved it! Sorry that I gave it away!

I remember turning up at the roundhouse as a 15 year old lad and waited on the steps - Dave’s keyboards arrived with a roadie and I was surprised how scruffy they looked - this was my first gig so I was very nervous, but excited st the same time. I had no thoughts of whether I would catch the last train home or even if my parents would be worried when I didn’t arrive from school. I made my way down to the front and remember handsome dick Manitoba from the dictators snarling at the audience. It seemed everybody hated him and his band so he was covered ion showed if spit - when the Stranglers came on, it was absolutely brilliant I stood right at the front where JJ was, he was so cool doing all his karate kicks. What amused me was Dave playing a solo with one hand whilst drinking two pints of beer/lager at the same time - he did the same thing at the Godiva festival Cov- 40 years later

The Stranglers should of had a sabbatical in 1990. Each of them should of spent some time writing, reflecting, chilling, whatever, and then reformed in 1992/93. And written a new album. Just my opinion.

Agreed... starts promisingly, but then the familiar flaws of HC's recent song writing emerge: weak, repetitive choruses ('Totem and Taboo' anyone?), and awkward, clunky, random-sounding guitar solos. This song would have probably benefited from the energy and the visceral aversion to self-indulgence of a certain strong minded bassist, from the quality control of a drummer with an eye/ear for effective rock music, and from a certain keyboard player whose melodic input adds another dimension even to average songs...
@whitetigress74487 жыл бұрын

@angrypossumsx12595 жыл бұрын
FFS people Hugh left the Stranglers almost 30 YEARS AGO get over it. As for the so-called “strong minded bassist with an aversion to self indulgence” what a load of cobblers. Check out JJs cocktail hour solo effort and (though he’s definitely mellowed with age) the many stories of his arrogance and aggressive elitist attitude toward others. The “effective rock music drummer with an eye/ear” (sounds like the punchline of a certain very un-PC oldie but goodie) must be hitting 80 and has long since hung up his skins. Whether you like Hugh Cornwall’s post-Stranglers work or not at least he’s doing it instead of being little more than a tribute band.
