The Dream: A Twisted Tale by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie’s short story, The Dream, weaves an eerie narrative of psychological depth and mystery. Featured in The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories, this tale explores the enigmatic death of financier Benedict Farley, who foretells his demise through a peculiar dream. Christie masterfully constructs a chilling puzzle that questions the boundaries between premonition and manipulation.
Plot Overview
Hercule Poirot is invited to Farley's home, where the wealthy industrialist reveals a recurring dream of suicide. The dream becomes a haunting reality when Farley is later found dead in his locked study, apparently by his own hand. However, Poirot's sharp intellect uncovers layers of deception, leading to an unexpected revelation about the true orchestrator of events.
Themes and Impact
Christie’s exploration of psychological vulnerability and the power of suggestion highlights her ability to delve into the human psyche. The Dream stands out for its clever twist, combining her signature locked-room mystery with elements of the subconscious mind.
Why It’s a Must-Read
This story is a testament to Christie’s genius in creating suspenseful narratives that keep readers guessing until the last moment. Fans of Poirot will relish his astute observations and the intricate unraveling of the crime.

Hugh Fraser is simply the best narrator I've ever listened to. His stories never get old. I can listen to the same story over and over. He's so calming and his characters are very appèaling.

Who knew Fraser was such a great actor, his role on Poirot was so limited. So glad someone thought to get him to read these stories. He’s the best.

I’d shut off the cc; it’s obviously AI generated. Loath was written as loaded. The worst is how Poirot’s name is written: Poirol, Oco Polo!! Countenance was transcribed as continents! These mistakes are very distracting, as are the captions.

In the above illustration a few things are off. I see: The standing man has only 4 fingers on his left hand. -Hes not looking at the seated figure. -The tall dresser of many drawers has a clock embedded in the woodwork at the top. -But theres another large clock just above...showing a different time. -Theres a heavy chair placed in front of the drawers, blocking them. -The electric lights are on, despite bright light flowing in the windows. -Theres a stack of books blocking a small set of drawers on the desk. -The carriage of the typewriter would hit the odd little lamp at the left of it, when fully extended...at the end of a row of typing.. -And what is that small lamp? An edison light like a candle, in a jar or vase of what...silverware?Pens? -The tray of accompanying dip-pen tools shows no bottle of ink -And theres no requisite blotting pad on the desk. Just curious, odd little things. I really like the moods caught in these AI ( ?) illustrations. And its fun to find the oddities.

Because it’s quick and easy to produce, you can put up 50 a day, and KZbin sticks commercials in all of them. So, essentially, money for nothing…as in you can make money by not working. The Buddhist and Stoic philosophy channels are the worst.
