Hugh Grant (“Florence Foster Jenkins”) and Colin Farrell (“The Lobster”) talked on Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” about directors, why the Irish are so emotional, and the effect of mustaches on their private lives.

June Asiimwe I like how humble he is about his stupid move with the hooker years ago. He brought it up on the set of Notting Hill when his character made a hooker reference to Julia Roberts ("We'll have you back on the street in no time") and asked if it was a good idea. Everyone thought he was referring to her being in Pretty Woman! Then when he was very involved in the "News Of The World" scandal, (the ones who hacked into a dead girl's cell phone and hurt her family) he took the stand and was asked if he was worried about his involvement tarnishing his good name, he said "I don't think I had anything to worry about there. I"m the one who got caught with a hooker" or something like that! I hate that he did that in the first place but owning up to it was the right thing to do.

Colin Farrell has always interested me. He had that period of crazy fame-like taking peak Britney Spears to red carpet events-but then quietly stepped back from that. I always suspected it must have had something to do with his experience being a father to a child with special needs (I think his son has cerebral palsy, I can’t remember exactly). But it definitely felt like he was on a “Johnny Depp” trajectory of Hollywood fame, but he made a shift, and has since done work that I find so impressive. Recently in True Detective, I thought he was so great, and now I’m super interested in seeing him back in a big franchise like The Batman, playing the Penguin of all characters. I could have easily seen him casted as Batman during the Christopher Nolan trilogy, if not for now having Christian Bale so totally own the role. I’m a fan of Colin’s.

Grant is as intelligent and charming as expected, but much more down to Earth and relaxed than I’d expected. He’s also a great mimic! That Richard Wilson impression was quite brilliant. I’m stunned that Farrell hasn’t heard of Wilson! In fact, “I don’t believe it.”
