@@MsEfellini The reason I said this is because I have always thought of him as a "one trick pony," you know, the self-effacing, long haired guy in all of the typical British rom coms. Adorable man. So witty and self-effacing (he described his acting range as 'sinisterly narrow' in an excellent phrase.) One feels he' s quite embarrassed by his work, and yet that he could have been even more than an actor. As he's gets older, he takes only the work that interests him, and rarely disappoints.

Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are two of, or even THE MOST handsome, witty, self-deprecating, intelligent, funny, respectful, colossally attractive men on the planet. If you’re having a bad day, you only need to cue up the fight scenes between these two in the Bridget Jones Movies, to make you howl with laughter. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY (I know - I love Matthew Macfadyen too…it was close - very close) will EVER top Colin’s portrayal of Fitzwilliam Darcy. Perfection.

I feel so sorry for him for being so preoccupied with so many things which were clearly whirling in his head back then. But like he said in Notting Hill himself: Today's newspaper news becomes bin lining tomorrow. No one forgets, obviously, but who cares after 20 odd years?
@omnivorous654 күн бұрын
You have to love the contrast between his screen persona and the private self, as far as we can tell. He is a rather grumpy fellow with a truly menacing streak. I think in his later roles he really tapped into that, but it was completely absent in his earlier screen incarnations. There is a video out where he approaches a paparazzi who follows him from his home to the local news agent and … man, there is nothing fluffy or bumbling about him.

This clip has little about Robin but I think it gets a message across: many actors just didn't like working with him, because he made them feel insecure. A lot of Hollywood stars are really just young, beautiful, persistent people... but mediocre actors. Williams was one of a kind, an improv genius who didn't graduate acting school because his teachers told him there was nothing they could give him that he didn't know already. He could upstage 99% of actors without even trying; he very clearly had to make the deliberate effort NOT to constantly steal the show, to the point where he admittedly self-medicated with cocaine **because it actually made him shut up**. This probably made his career more difficult, as many A-list stars just didn't want him on their projects for fear he would upstage them.
@eggsnomnom9995 Жыл бұрын
Because people normally have nothing but praises whenever Robin Williams is ever mentioned I never quite thought of it that way until reading your comment. But I can definitely see how it’s possible - Robin was so quick it would’ve been very difficult to keep up with him especially since he probably constantly adlibbed in scenes

Wow . Thank you so much for taking the time to share that . He is one of my favorites , I feel a connection to him , his death upturned my world , and the pain in his face was always a great concern of mine an FB now I understand it so much more , I never thought the upstaging + subsequent jealousy/ irritation could have been an issue . I do know that no one in Hollywood shows such genuine care and love in his face as he could express on a screen . I thought it was because his heart was so big , but it turns out it’s a big heart plus being possibly the greatest actor of all time
