P.G. Wodehouse wrote a lot of lyrics for Broadway show tunes. This song, however, was written in 1928 by one Leslie Sarony, about whom I know nothing else. “Forty-Seven Ginger-Headed Sailors” was a hit in the late 1920s.

I also discovered that Fry must have, every day of his life, visions of balding and dandruffy heads, whenever walking amongst people. He would see tops of heads, not faces - and I was in a rare situation to experience it - I am not tall - and I found it rather unattractive. I gaze up into people's faces, as a rule, but being in a rare situation of being 6" to 12" taller than more than 70% of the population around me, I was not impressed with what I gazed upon. In fact, I suddenly wished the practice of wearing hats, a la 1920's/30's, would come back immediately.

Lately I've had an idea for a story where Bertie is very old (maybe in his eighties) and he's trying to get along on his own as Jeeves has predeceased him. He's inherited the title of Lord Yaxley and lives in the mansion. There's some sort of conflict involving his grand-nieces and nephews (dunno what yet) and he is visited by the ghost of Jeeves to help him sort it out.
