I remember watching this movie the first time in the 90s. I fell on the floor crying from laughter. He just came out of nowhere and owned every scene. Steve Martin is just parked in the shadow the moment Short arrives. Legend.

@@lisayerry3694 Agree. Those two have incredible chemistry, and Steve's reactions make Martin seem even funnier than he already is on his own. Everything those two do togehter is gold, and we are fortunate that they are good friends and constantly work together. If you haven't already, check out Only Murders in the Building. They are outdoing themselves on every new season of that show.

Fun fact: The famous “Franck” voice was kind of an accident. During the making of Father of the Bride, it was suggested that Short’s character, eccentric wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, had an accent that was so broad, audiences wouldn’t be able to tell where he was from. Relying on his improv skills, Short played Franck a handful of different ways, giving director Charles Shyer a number of versions to choose from. Shyer ended up going with the heightened presentation seen in the movie, thus creating one of Short’s most memorable characters🙂

Many of the scenes are shot from two angles and they may have used stand ins to do Shorts dialogue. In big movies like this one they use one camera only and have to shoot every scene several times from different angles. It's very common that actors act to a crew member reading the script and they edit the two angles into one. Except for the scenes where they appear together I bet they struggled not laughing. Maybe there are som blooper video somewhere.

I remember the theater cracking up over Martin Short walking around the house sounding like a wounded goose. "Hooooooonnnk! Hoooooonk!"
The sentence "Mother of the bride has a bobby" just came to me as I was drinking coffee on the balcony. I had to see it again. I used to watch this movie with my sister and mother, and now there is only me. I have some great memories of lazy Sundays and the three of us , sitting on the couch, laughing our asses off.

My son asked me what the difference between pie and cake was and even though I haven’t seen this movie in decades “wahhhding keck” popped into my head and I had to find this clip. This was a favorite movie of my mom and dad, neither who are with us any more, and I can still hear my dad laughing at Honk and Fronk in my mind. Good, good memories of a great film.

Actually, in an interview, Short said he had to figure out an accent that the audience could understand, but could also see why Steve Martin could not understand him. Definitely not made on the fly. He did amazingly.

And I love how Marty will always trys and work in being cross-eyed at least once during his character bits. Just for comic effect. And he does it briefly here with "ok please! Come with me a we talk _all about_ your big day!"
