Hey Hugh, FYI, the 2011 GPU faults are inside the chip. It’s a flip chip design where the die is connected with metal bumps rather than bond wires. The failure is on one or more of the bumps. I don’t have a video on this but I do have one on what is happening when people try to reheat their BGA chips.
The "Pismo" black laptop had all sorts of *other* things that could be shoved in the "Accessory Bay" too. From the black 'just plastic bin' one I used to hold dongles and cables *internally* to a *internal* AC powerbrick, to ZIP drives, etc. Honestly an excellent design concept even today IMNSHO. Double batteries are excellent. Or run *no* batteries light. I have one running a developer release of MAX OS X here somewhere and some of the odd 'fits in a bay' stuff if there's particular interest.

Internet recovery for older OS will usually work if you back date. Strange as it sounds, Apple puts an expiration date on Mac OS Internet Recovery downloads. Because, well...Apple. After the first part of the process (download), but prior to letting it restart, you disconnect it from any Internet access, manually boot into recovery, open terminal, set the date back far enough to override the expiration date of the OS you are trying to install, and then let it reboot and perform the actual install (still without allowing any Internet access).

Interesting story with the one that was hard to turn on and then boot looped, I was on a trip and my phone restarted, WiFi cellular and Bluetooth were all disabled, after restarting again it showed the swipe up to restore screen, it locked up after that and turned off, I could only turn it on when the charger was unplugged, then had to plug it in when it was on the apple logo. When I got it on the system logs would crash when you opened them. I restored the phone to factory and it was fine for a hour, then it repeated it all, when I got home I fully wiped it and put it into dfu mode and haven’t had problems since, this was on a iPhone XS. This whole thing happened over a few hours trying to get to to work
