And when I saw how much crap you had in yours, I thought I'd see if that was the case with mine. And my god! It was chokkas! A pin cleared it out, a bit of compressed air blew the rest out, and then a quick squirt of contact cleaner. As good as new! Thanks Hugh!

priv was the best phone design ever imo, full keyboard that you can type on without needing auto correct to fix typos but the screen flips up to reveal it so you can have a full screen while typing rather than stupidly making the screens longer and longer as they do on modern phones to keep more screen open while the keyboard is active. I kept mine going for as long as possible but at a certian point the android version was just too old for many new apps to work.
@HughJeffreys4 ай бұрын
The Priv was the best designed phone of all time IMO. But the software was so unoptimised and buggy i couldn't even use it for just calls and SMS. Would keep rebooting, crashing and taking 15-20 seconds to open sometime as simple as settings. Which they had of stuck to that design with the Key series. The Priv had an OLED screen which was higher resolution than even an iPhone 11 pro as well as wireless charging, something the newer blackberrys don't have.

@@HughJeffreys I didn't have issues that bad with the software but I think it was like android 7 and I kept it until android had moved to 14 or something so yeha lots of apps didn't work or apps like spotify became super slow for no reason, I assume the apps just got more bloated. The cpu wasn't ideal though, there were two choices around the time for flagship phones but iirc it was developed just a tad late to use the better one so the cpu it came with was significantly less efficient and prone to overheating than the other option. And yeha the screen I like more than most modern phones, just as high res but I found the colours fairly accurate to the eye compared to say my current note 9 which is a bit dull by default or a bit too vibrant if I change the mode in the settings. And with the res and my fairly good eye sight and the flip out keyboard combined I could see a whole a4 page in word and type it out no problem! worked great for doing home work in the library or on the bus for college. My priv didn't have wireless charging because of the region to save costs, they modules are only a couple bucks now but I'm guessing they costed more then. It's just such a massive shame that in such a big market there is no diversity, only glass slabs.

Unfortunately I had to replace my Moto G5, a functionally similar phone I dailied as while cheap it was made very sensibly. It still works and I didn't mind it's Android 7, the UI on video being near identical. But the 2GiB of RAM were just too little to keep up with the apps I do use on it, it really hit a wall and became unusable. Now I moved to a Hisense A5 CC Pro Color, a Chinese e-Ink phone I took a gamble on importing. And I could not be happier with it, managed to work around the Chinese Android well and it's been less annoying to fight than the Google flavour. Of which the e-Ink optimised interface is actually nice too, though most notably media playback notifications have a major contrast issue. It's headphone jack also got some proper attention, it having a decently beefy and good DAC&Amp behind it that drives even studio headphones well. Not to mention the elephant in the room, the e-Ink screen. While the colour version of this is even more compromised, it manages to be pleasant to look at in ALL lighting conditions. To the degree of a light theme in total darkness being more pleasant than a dark theme on that G5, which got decently dim already. Future-proofing wise, for now even my banking and government identifying apps work on it. While a bit involved I think I will be able to replace the battery on it once it wears out and with some effort I see myself soldering on a new charge port if needed too. And the fricking thing has 6GiB of RAM, along with 256GiB of also MicroSD expandable storage. That's beyond plenty for my needs, I made do with the 16GiB of the G5 expanded with a 64GiB card just fine still.

I still have my blackberry curve. Sure the rubber sides has since disintegrated but still alive. BTW, if you want a phone that can take 2 physical nano simcard plus a micro SD card and has a decent camera for taking pictures, may I recommend the midrange Realme series phone. My 2023 Realme 11 4G has all that good stuff. Only downside are the blaotware that can either be un-installed or disabled if you don't want them. I also had to install Poweramp as my music player because the builtin music player wasn't as good as the Samsung music player and it also had ads running on it. After a bit of cleaning (it's crazy how the first order of business you have is to clean your phone and get rid of useless aps after buying it) it now runs pretty well. Good cellular connectivity as well.

I got really tired of having the connection port on my phones get clogged up with pocket lint, so I started using magnetic charging cables. Not only is it quite handy to charge with, but the adaptor bit stays inside the port and reduces wear and tear from repeated plugging and unplugging, and keeps the lint out as well. I figure that even if anything goes amiss with it, replacing the mag cable is cheaper and less hassle than replacing the charging port. About the only downside is that you need to unplug the adaptor when you need a data connection (usually Android Auto in my case) but I think that it's well worth it.
