Same, but I'm willing to try something. I have a Motorola Moto E5+ that has an exploded battery. I'm willing to try and replace it but I have to be careful as it was poked when I was removing the back panel. And I lost my pry tool, so that will make the repair more difficult.

I'm guessing the motherboard is fine. Incorrect software can cause a lot of these issues. Flash back the original firmware with ODIN, and call the network provider to unlock the phone. They are legally required to in most cases.

You can try to reflash the ROM on it,since it's an Australian phone but has spanish software means the previous owner probably flashed the firmware from another country. I once flashed the wrong region software on an S7 and it acted the same,camera and sensors would not work. After i reflashed it again with the correct ROM everything started to work like it should.

Yeah happened to me with the S3 neo. After trying a custom rom, I had to download the Original rom. I took the first one, flashed it with Odin and the Camera didn't work. Then I found, that Samsung used two camera versions, Samsung and Sony. After flashing the right one everything worked.

The IMEI lock has to be removed by the network provider once the contract period is up (if you get the phone with the contract from a provider), this is a legal requirement not many people know about in Australia and the provider won't tell you either.
@Alexander_l322
@Alexander_l322 2 жыл бұрын
I think that is a different lock than what Hugh is talking about. You mean carrier lock which means the phone can only be used on The network the phone was originally purchased from and yes now there is a law that makes carriers allow you to move to another network either by unlocking your phone or just selling you an unlocked phone to begin with. I think in the UK all phones are unlocked from new and not branded. Before they used to be either branded and locked or just locked to the carrier meaning you couldn’t change network unless you got it unlocked.

This is something i'm really passionate about repairing phones, i wish i had the budget to start buying android phones with broken displays and such to refurbish and re sell, but i've saved many phones from becoming e-waste from ppl i know needing screen replacements already, it's super fun to do, and it's a shame that motherboard wasn't usable, maybe if you put it for sale someone needing the chips or other components could find it useful?

I think I have the answer for the spanish "Claro" network. Back in 2018 the company I work for sent me to Argentina for a few months so before leaving I had my Note8 N950U unlocked from the carrier. Once there a co-worker recommended to do a "carrier swap" for better service while I'm there so I took it to this cellphone shop and they backed up the whole phone and then Flashed the firmware to N950F, then flash a "Claro" network rom then put on a "Claro" SIM card and I was all set. Before returning back home I went to the same shop, they re-flashed the phone with the back-up they did at the beginning, like nothing ever happened.

Always cool to see the phone model I'm currently still using being picked apart and analyzed. It's a really nice phone, and I'm reluctant to replace it since I don't want to lose the headphone jack. The only thing i don't like about it is the curved/beveled screen. After having it in my pocket all these years, this "feature" only served to accumulate scratches.

Battery drain is probably due to a short. With that much of a bend, a couple layers of the board are almost certainly cracked. Traces get pinched between the cracks and send signals all over the place except where they're needed, causing components to act in an always on states which constantly produce loads. Probably a major contributor to the heat as well. I wouldn't use for testing batteries and displays either. To me it's a ticking time bomb, and it will eventually kill other components.

You can use a Android with a SIM reader app on it to read the phone number on the SIM card. This way, even if there’s no medical info, as long as there’s a SIM you should be able to contact the original owner.

Sorry to hear that you weren't able to save this phone - looks like the motherboard was too far gone, and besides, it was IMEI blocked anyway. Still, at least you've now got pretty much everything you need to get another S8 working well - all you need is a motherboard!
