Absolute blinding video mate, superb history of such an iconic franchise got to meet John Romero last year and what a really genuine guy he spoke fondly of the Jaguar port of Doom he stated that it was the only console port that was done by iD software (John Romero built it in 2 weeks) and was more than happy to sign my Jag copy

I was "of age" in the early 90s and when I look back at that time, I don't think about Nirvana- I remember Id Software and Doom. Those mountains rendered in the background, the way you had to account for enemies throwing fire from near ceiling level, and the near realness of it all puts it akin to "Die Hard" or, dare I say, "2001: A Space Odyssey". The avenues this title opened up we still find ourselves walking down all these moons later. To really put it in perspective, it wasn't that much of a stretch for people to associate the Columbine kids being darkly inspired by this title at the very close of the 90s. Doom put gaming above a threshold it hadn't before reached: it was dangerous, and deserved to be taken with the same weight (for better or worse) that film and music had previously; any time adolescents shun the outside world in favor of some other medium look out, cuz that's the future. Andy, you are a king among men.

Love this dude. Absolutely agree. The impact and cultural relevance of games like this can't be underestimated. In the future more and more people will recognise their importance. Thanks man
