Thank you! Oh yes, I had a look at other reviews and mainly saw "I like this, I don't like that" but no real measurements. I don't blame, my previous tests and reviews were similar. But I'm learning, and investing in mini toys (heat gun :D) to help me to do the best I can. I really wish I'll be able to afford more tools like that in a near future (eg. a hardness measurement tool, on the Mohs Hardness Scale, or a plug to put on the power supply to measure power consumption) :-)

This is probably one of the most detail pendisplay review. I hate it when alot of other reviewer just straight up say "oh this is good drawing experience" like how about the IAF and the precision of stylus to the cursor?, alot of people got baited by the previous Huion product because the reviewer always said "close to Wacom quality" in reality it is NOT. This video literally answer all of that matter. Amazing review David Revoy!

Hey, that's a good idea! I'll probably need technically to wait a bit because the X11 method is reaching end of life and there is still not really a way to make that properly under Wayland ( properly as in "native" and "user friendly" except with running the X11 software under Xwayland mode). Things are coming together, slowly, but it's defintely something I want to cover.

Hey, thank you. Yes, that's indeed an important metric. I'll include it in next review videos. At home it's pretty constant in Winter time here, so during this test it was around 21°C (with variation +- 2°C ). We have summer over 30°C, and I'm curious how these devices will cumulate heat at this time.

Merci David! Did you find any problems with the cables in terms of the angle they have to bend at? The side attachment worries me that over time it will fatigue the USB port or cables or both because for me, they will have to bend and go behind my displays (as you can imagine, there are things like the mouse and other stuff on the right side of any computer desk that stops a direct path for the cables ... direct path would be ugly anyway haha). Also, what do you think about the matte coating visually? A lot of reviews have talked about a kind of blurry/fuzzy look due to the etched glass making things "not as sharp", especially at 4K because that's where things like text and buttons become small. Do you notice anything like that? If so, will 1440p help reduce that effect? Thanks!
@DavidRevoyАй бұрын
Thank you, about the cables, the default one are very not flexible, and you can't bend them to go behind or under the unit. I think your option in this case is to invest in two good quality (high voltage, bandwith) USB-C (female to male) with 90° angle connectors, so you can manage to hide them totally. But the two plug are also not far away each other, so it require probably a bit of trial and error to find the good cables with a head that will fit. About the coating/overlay surface; it's difficult to say, because there is always a tradeoff. A 100% glass smooth will for sure show the resolution crystal clear, but at the same time will be an horror for drawing on it, as drawing with a plastic object on a glass. Huion decided to get a good balance, and one clearly more about the screen quality than the 'paper texture', or 'matte' feeling. For example, on my other review about XPPen; Xppen decided to go more on the texture and matte territory, and the picture looks a bit less sharp but the comfort of antiglare and texture is better in my opinion. But for sure, I was flattered by the feeling of the deepness of the color of the Huion; not because of the display itself, but because of this smooth overlay surface. Going 1440p (reducing resolution) increase blur and loose definition (you have a scaling/anti-aliasing, it's not "pixel perfect" as in 4K) but at this level of ppi , it's acceptable. So no, I haven't seen any effect like that. For sure, as for any device with an overlay surface it can't match a glass clear aspect as for a phone, but this display tablet was the one most successful at this, imo.

Hey, David! Would you happen to be willing to test nib compatibility between Huion's styluses and XP-Pen? Namely the X3 Pro Slim one, as there doesn't seem to be any felt tips available for it, I'm wondering if Huion's, or even Wacom's would fit. Certain Wacom's nibs seem to be compatible with fat X3 styluses and Xencelabs nibs compatible with some Huion and Wacom styluses, would be nice to see some compatibility of more recent tech as it's often cheaper to go with alternatives. 😉 Could be a part of future review videos, nib compatibility! 😀

Does the palm rejection still happen with glove on ?
@DavidRevoy5 күн бұрын
On Linux X11 yes, but it's a software issue: the software (input stack) don't know really how to count 3 or 4 fingers and even decide if it is a single click, etc... On Wayland it was way better as it is part of the new stack , I could test on Wayland native element (eg. filebrowser) , but to experience it fully in Krita it will require to wait the Krita rewritten in Qt6, with a true Wayland support. I'm sure on Windows and Mac it is a totally different scenario.

So, Huion or XP-Pen ?
@DavidRevoyАй бұрын
Hehe, that might be the topic of a next video if I'm getting motivated. But, as you probably saw, the reviews are almost identical as the tech underneath is probably really close (the 18.4 4K screen, USB-C, two styluses...). I think this Huion could appeal the Mac audience; used to glossy screen and aluminium case. Also, maybe for the audience coming from Ipad (Touch for zoom, panning). but for my own usage, I struggled, and in the end I kept the XPPen connected because probably of the bias I had of using the 16inch model for a year before that already being adapted to the sensitivity. All in all, I think the end price will be the best argument for whomever look for a 4K 1:9 19inch tablet.

i see that you are using debian, however, as im a new linux user..ive only ever use arch, wonder if this will run smoothly on arch, i use a laptop for my work mostly as i move a lot, but still considering to have this big screen, if im not mistaken, in the huion website, the supported the driver is for ubuntu(debian based) only as a casual linux user, im a bit hesitant to distro hopping as i only use linux as an alternatives and not because i want to deep dive in it if its not to much, i hope you can include the step by step for arch user in your blog
@DavidRevoyАй бұрын
Hi, yes, on Debian 12 KDE here :) I'll not publish Arch specific set of instructions; because it's not really relevant: what's more relevant is if you use a X11 session or a Wayland session, and what desktop environment you use. All of that is on the blog post, and the instructions. For the Deb package of Huion, if you want to use their driver on Arch, you can easily (probably, not tested) just unpack the deb (it's an archive) and install manually the executable and various libraries as organised in the deb package. Probably check AUR; I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a script for doing that automatically. On the bright side, if you look at the blog post, and the udev-ebpf and libwacom repo, a lot of work was made for an out of the box "coming soon" support. Totally FLOSS. I guess arch will be the first OS to grab the new versions out of the box.

I use an Intuos Pro Large how does the stroke quality and response feel compared to it?
@DavidRevoy28 күн бұрын
Hey, yes. This generation of Huion (and "gen2' XPPen also) have both comparable quality for the input. At least for sure on Linux, where I test things (I guess the driver also does a lot). For context, Wacom sent me a Intuos Pro Large, and I used it in production but unfortunately, the quality of the build was low: the overlay surface after 6 or 8 months went full of scratches , and the plastic parts of the stylus were jiggling, but except that, it's indeed a high quality tablet for the precision of the input and the responsivness of the tilt/pressure. I had a great (but short) time with it. Too bad, I really liked it for a screenless tablet. Especially how thin (and cold, zero heat) it was on the desk.
@ZephrusPrime28 күн бұрын
@@DavidRevoy I agree that the Wacom has issues. I hate the nib wear on this generation as it seems they were made to fail fast. This results in too much scratching on the surface itself but the surfaces are replicable which I have done already.
